This place is in the old Dickeys BBQ location near walmart, and let me preface this with saying we LOVED that Dickey location and would eat there all the time. There have been a couple of other attempts to start a restaurant there only to have them crash and burn I figured that corner would stay empty for a long time. But while driving through Folsom last week. I noticed the Big Island Hawaiian BBQ sign and smiled. I love Hawaiian BBQ and to have one in Folsom was good new for me. We used to go to L&L a lot before but none are really that close to us where we can make it a regular dinner option. So last night the wife and I were wondering what we were going to have for dinner and I said "lets check out the new Hawaiian BBQ spot.
When we first got there we were surprised on how much work was done to change the inside of that location, it was completely remade and it looks great, there a so much more room in there, its open, clean and inviting. I already knew what I was going to get, I love chicken katsu! its my go to dish whenever we get Hawaiian BBQ, its a good way for me to judge the quality of a place. Walked up to the friendly staff ordered my food and sat for it to be done. They are still in their soft opening phase, but to me the place looked like it was ready for prime time. Everybody there was attentive, the people that were eating inside seemed happy, and it only took about 10 mins for our food to be done.
We took our food to the car and started to dig in. The katsu was very crispy, and the katsu sauce was delicious! Actually everything was really good, the bbq beef and chicken underneath the katsu had great flavor. My wife is really picky about macaroni salad so that was what she used to rate this place. A lot of macaroni salad that other places serve are usually really heavy on mayonnaise, but this salad was pretty much perfect, it made it taste more light and fresh, the flavors was really good and I was a little bummed that I didn't ask for a extra scoop to replace the rice.
For the price we got a decent amount of food that had great flavor and was freshly made. we will be going back for sure, maybe not as often as we were at Dickeys, but this place is now on the list of go to places for...
Read moreLooking for a fast food alternative? This is the place to go! Food: the season and taste of the teriyaki beef and Kalua pork cooked just right and seasoned wonderfully. The flavors weren’t overwhelming or heavy to the palette. Rice is similar to Japanese rice, which goes perfect with the sauces you can add on and the cabbage gives the final touch needed. The cabbage taste fresh and sliced thinly so add on to every bite. The Mac and cheese 🫕 amazing! You won’t be disappointed. They run great deals, like Musubi Mondays 50% (a type of Hawaiian sushi they explained). I loved that the fountain drinks have some premixed drinks and not only the typical sodas.
Atmosphere and place: clean, well mantened, great to hang out. Regular tables, high top tables and a little countertop area. Good for groups or if you are by yourself. Very contemporary and easy menus to understand. Bathrooms also very clean and with full supplies. The music is relaxing - island vibe - even in the bathrooms.
Service: excellent. Very helpful, respectful, patience and clean looking. The chefs as well. Definitely a good team because they bring your food out fast.
An amazing alternative to fast food but also great for anytime of...
Read moreI am always skeptical of new places, especially when I’m not immediately attracted to the menu photos - but this restaurant was WORTH the chance. We showed up and was immediately greeted with a friendly “Aloha!” And tended to then and there. Dean, the sweet woman at the register, took our order with all our specifications and got the kitchen started on it quick. It was a bit of a wait, but understandable as the manager is in the middle of conducting an interview so we waited patiently outside. Upon coming back inside to get condiments (they have great sauces laid of for customer use) I saw the kitchen bring the food to the counter and the wildest thing happened.. Dean cross referenced the receipt to each order 😮💨👌🏼 she found a mistake and had it handled before we ever knew (or so she thought lol). I was so impressed! I wanted to give accolades to her manager, but didn’t wanna disrupt her hiring process. I always enjoy places that go the extra mile. This team works well together, takes constructive criticism easily and quickly solves problems for maximum customer satisfaction 👐🏼 Come back for the edit after I get home and dig in 🍴 cause it...
