We had dinner here tonight. It was kind of a mixed bag. The server, a young man, was extremely polite, very patient (we took our time looking over the menu), and a good server. He immediately brought out chips and salsa, and I knew right away the chips were in-house made. The salsa was good, not great, but good enough, we enjoyed the chips and salsa. I ordered a carnitas enchilada and a fish taco. My enchilada came with beans and rice, which surprised me, because the menu does not indicate that, which it would be good to know. I am not a fan of rice, so I asked if I could keep the beans but get some salad in place of the rice. He said yes. The menu says the fish taco comes on soft corn tortillas with shredded cabbage, onions and a creamy lime sauce. It sounded fairly legit by Baja California standards, so I was very excited about that. My food came out in a reasonable time. My beans, and enchilada were cold. The enchilada had a little residual heat in the very center, but the sauce surrounding it and the ends of it were cold. The beans...zero warmth. I know since the enchilada had some tepid heat in the very center it must have been warm or hot at some point, but either the plate was too cold when plated or it sat too long before it was brought out. The sauce on the enchilada was weird. It was the color of sweet and sour sauce--- more a fake red, and it had not much flavor. I make enchiladas at home from scratch, including making my own sauce. It should be a deep red on the browner end of red, from all the chili powder, cumin, paprika, and other spices and the broth. It should be spiced, savory and rich, and this was thin, not much flavor and oddly colored. The carnitas was OK, again, I make this at home too and it was OK, but not richly flavored. The beans were alright, but there was way too many of them, and the salad was about a 1/2 a measuring cup worth and drown in dressing. I would have preferred no dressing or just the dressing on the side, since I typically barely use any. I don't feel like that plate was worth the $13 odd dollars it cost. The taco, was very disappointing. First, it was breaded in, I think cornmeal. Cornmeal to put in a corn taco. Too much of the same thing. That's why a beer batter fried cod rocks a fish taco. But what was really disappointing was the huge, thick blob of some reddish colored, bacon tasting sauce that was pretty spicy, put on top of the taco. Not a lime based sauce at all. It was just too much. But the thing I can't forgive is that this spicy gloopy sauce was not what was stated on the menu, and had they said a spicy bacon sauce I would have asked for it on the side. The fish was dry, and seemed barely cooked, and it was not a flaky fish, but a translucent. Perhaps it was still raw. I am not sure, but I did not eat too much of that, the taco was just not enjoyable. One more thing that I hope they work to fix....the dishware is plastic. Likely melamine, which if it's heated, even by warm food touching it, is toxic. They need ceramic plates, preheated in the oven, before they put food on it to avoid cold food. Hopefully they can buy some in the near future. I do hope they succeed, but they should definitely solicit feedback from their customers, because there's a lot they could improve upon. My husband had a burrito. His description? "Basic." There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in Folsom, so they need to find a way to set themselves apart. Not...
Read moreI rarely gove 1 star reviews for restaurants as dining is objective but I am so very confused by all of the positive reviews and and the 4.8 star (currently) rating. This was the highest rated Mexican food (our favorite cuisine) in the area so we decided to stop in. The place was unassuming and very casual with seat-yourself booths. We were promptly met by a seemingly-friendly server who got our drink orders in and brought us chips and salsa. The chips were brought out in small quantity from under a heat lamp on the front counter in one of those red and white paper bowls/boxes that you normally see hotdogs served in at a game and the salsa was watery..but as usual was free so we cant complain too much. My husband ordered Carne asada (or a version of it) and I ordered the chicken enchilada plate. The food came out and was instantly off-putting. The meat was dry and tough, tasted bitter like burnt rubber, smelled strange, and was covered in a thick unappealing tomato sauce. The refried beans were yellow? (Maybe just an opinion but they normally arent that color) and were sprinkled with Parmesan. Odd to say the least. My chicken enchilada also tasted rubbery and everything was once again covered in parmesan cheese and smothered in an overpowering tomatoey sauce (which has been a common, unpleasant, occurrence in the Sacramento area with Mexican food). After a couple bites of our food we decided we couldn't eat it and politely got up and paid our bill and left. Yes, we were charged the full amount despite voicing our opions that things didnt taste right, so this is a completely unbias review. We have NEVER walked out of a restaurant before due to bad tasting food so this was a first (and last) at...
Read moreEverything about this place was amazing. The owner is who I’m assuming was serving us because he was telling us stories about life and just having real conversations with us. He comped some of our drinks just because he’s that awesome and kind. You can tell is family owned and ran. The food and prices are amazing. 4 people and it cost us $64 dollars. You can’t even get that at most fast food places. They had all the football games going. He lets us know Sept. 30th they will have the Canelo vs Charlo on all their TVs! I moved from south sac and have been looking for a new taqueria spot and I definitely...
