I want to start by saying that my wife and I love seafood boil. We have gone to many different establishments for this type of food and, from our experience, there is no middle ground when it comes to this food. Either the food is amazing and they did everything right, or everything is wrong.
This is a place where they did everything wrong.
My wife and I ordered a bundle with 1lb King Crab, 2lb Shrimp. We also ordered a side of white rice and lemon pepper garlic fries. We got the pink lemonade for our drinks.
It was a bit of a red flag when we got our food within 15 minutes of ordering on a busy time. Especially considering rheir kitchen size was fairly small compared to other establishments. The shrimp was rubbery and lacked flavor on its own. My wife ate the king crab and stated it tasted old and like sink water. The sausage in our bag was also just squishy, also lacking flavor. The white rice was very mushy. The lemon pepper garlic fries just tasted like regular fries with a garlic garnish. They also gave us limes instead of lemons. Apparently the staff considers both the same, which is not the case. Lemon is sweet while a lime is sour. That would explain while the lemon pepper garlic fries didn't taste like lemon. The pink lemonade was below average, you could tell what the taste would have been more like if it wasn't watered down. Overall, a let down compared to the competition.
The service was also lackluster. We got one tabletouch to make sure all our food was there and that was it. Apparently our server went on a break, it must have been a lunch break based on how long it was. We had to bug another waitress for help. Thankfully she actually helped out, the other waitresses would make eye contact when I was clearly trying to get their attention and just turn around and ignore our table. Again, a let down compared to the competition.
If you are a person that loves seafood boil or are new to it, do yourself a favor, take the longer drive and hit up these other establishments based on this order:
The Boiling Crab - Gold Standard Hot N Juicy Crawfish - 65-70% of Gold Standard Kickin' Crab - 55-60% of Gold Standard
I know it seems like the rating for the bottom 2 establishments is low, it's not based on them being good. It's in comparison to the Gold standard. Those establishments are still amazing, the Gold Standard is just next level.
FINAL WORDS: I think what made Blazin Crab such a let down was the way their food was cooked. This is not confirmed, but I think they cook everything separately in water and then just combine it all in a customers bag. As an example for my shrimp, I think that large amounts of shrimp are boiled in one pot and are then taken out and added to the bags of different tables. This would save time and kitchen space. I assume they do this for pretty much everything that goes in the bag, from crab legs to even the sausage.
That may not sound too bad, but it makes a world of difference in taste. It leaves lots of room for errors in overcooking since they basically sit in hot water till an order comes up. Its like a buffet having food under a heat lamp. It also means that the protein isn't marinating with the sauce when cooked Even with their slightly cheaper price, I would not bother with this place. If I had to compare it to the Gold Standard, it would be 10%. That's not saying much either, that's pretty much a participation award for even offering seafood boil to begin with.
All in all, we spent more than $100 on food that was so bad, we ended up paying and leaving the seafood bag still more...
Read moreI am giving them two stars because the food was good, but they gave terrible service.I went in last night in a party of 4. We were unsatisfied with the way our service was, or lack of. For the whole of the meal we were only helped three times. The first time was when we were being seated and the guy told us that our server would be with us shortly, and took our drink order for us , and apologized for how it may take a while to get our order in. the next time was when he brought our drinks and we put our order in with him, again he was not our assigned server as we noticed he was working in the back in the kitchen.I feel i should mention my boyfriend came a little later and no one took his drink order and when he got his order in it was because he went up to the register where there were already 4 other people waiting to pay and for refills and they waited at least 10 minutes for someone to take care of them. They quickly dropped off our food and left again not checking to see if we even needed anything else. The third time they came was because my sister flagged down one of the other guys and had to ask for a crab cracker and some lemon which they brought quickly .After a while of eating we needed refills and we waited to flag someone down again but no one ever came so my sister went and took our cups up and waited in the line that was still there for some one to help.
While we appreciated that the guy who helped us apologized in advance since it was busy, we were upset that we never got to see our server and we had to flag people down and wait in line for help. There were 4 or 5 girls that were working and there was one large party but my sister and boyfriend noticed that one table(not the large party) was getting excellent service while they rest got ok service and 3 or 4 tables were getting the same amount of attention as our table. My sister is a waitress at 2 restaurants ,and could not believe how terrible it was (she works at a mom and pop restaurant and at a chain restaurant ),She has seen her fair share of rushes and did not think there was any excuse for us having to flag people and go to wait in a line at the register .
The convenience of having one of these types of places close to home is not worth the trouble of the terrible service,we would rather do the 30 to 40 minute drive than...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to dine at Blazin's Crab on a Thursday evening, and I was excited to try their seafood offerings. As a self-proclaimed foodie with a particular passion for seafood, especially oysters, I had high hopes for this visit. Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations.
I decided to order the fried oysters, a dish I was eager to savor. However, I was left quite disappointed. The oysters were not up to par; they lacked the fresh, briny flavor that I adore. Instead, they had an unappealing texture and flavor that just didn't resonate with me. If you’re new to oysters, you might find them acceptable, but as someone who truly loves and appreciates this delicacy, I found them lacking in quality and taste. It was disheartening because I was looking forward to enjoying a well-prepared oyster dish.
On the other hand, my wife opted for the snow crab. Her dish was decent but not extraordinary. While it was cooked adequately and had a pleasant flavor, it didn’t stand out as something remarkable or memorable. It felt like a standard offering that you might find at any seafood restaurant rather than something special that would make us want to return.
The service at Blazin's Crab was satisfactory, but it didn't elevate our dining experience. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, which is always a plus when dining out. However, given my disappointment with the fried oysters and the average snow crab, I cannot wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant for seafood enthusiasts.
In summary, if you're a seafood lover like me who has a deep appreciation for oysters, you may want to think twice before ordering them at Blazin's Crab. While my wife found her snow crab acceptable, the overall experience did not live up to my expectations for a seafood restaurant. I hope they can improve their oyster dish in the future because I would love to see this place thrive with better offerings for those who share my passion...
