I am a true 100% SalvadoreƱa and can really tell you what real Salvadorean food should taste like. I just move to the area from Long Beach and so I have looking for a good place for pupusas. This place had 4 stars on google and good reviews and the pictures look decent as well, so I decided to try them out. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment. The pupusas were just okay, taste was okay, however the cheese to chicharon ratio was not there. I ordered the cheese and chicaron pupusas could barely see any cheese. I also ordered a side of platanos fritos/fried plantain with beans and sour cream. This was the worse, not only did it look so bad (please see pictures attached) but they were sooooo greasy could not even consume them. It looks like I got leftovers, plantains that had been sitting there for hours. Also, the sour cream, I know that there are a bunch of latino stores that sell central American sour cream, they donāt even bother on serving it with central American sour cream, just your basic American sour cream, no salt no flavor. On top of that the staff, was not friendly at all, I ordered my phone on the phone, they told me it would be ready in 45 minutes, which by the way itās a long time. My phone was ready on the counter and when I came to the counter, I told the lady I was picking a phone order gave her my name and she just said okay, nothing else. 5 minutes went by until I finally asked her how much longer, she told me oh itās ready itās on the counter someone else will charge you and give you the rest of the sides. The cabbage and salsa. A few minutes later I was charged which by the way you get charge a whole $1.00 if paying with your credit cardā¦take cash if you are brave enough to go her. Would I ever order from her againā¦.Thatās a...
Read moreIn my household, Salvadoran food is comfort food. After trying several Salvadoran restaurants in the area over the past few years, El Palmar has become our favorite. The restaurant is always clean and the food is very authentic. It is a comfortable place to have a sit down dinner (conversations don't have to compete with televised futbol games, which is a real plus) and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The quality of the food is very consistent - although each pupusera will prepare her pupusas in her own way; but the ingredients will always be the same! Pupusas revueltas de maiz is a family favorite, but I still prefer a simple frijole y queso de arroz pupusa. Each table will have salsa for your pupusas, but make sure that it is the darker squirt bottle - the hottest! Because the other salsa won't be hot at all. And if you are a güero like me, it might be assumed that you want the mild salsa. The 'curtido' is always excellent - and I highly recommend that you always put it on top of your pupusas! El Palmar serves authentic Salvadoran horchata as well as authentic tamales salvadoreños. All these dishes and drinks taste their best when they are fresh so take some time and enjoy it all on the premises. If you're going to take something home, take a salvadoran quesadilla home with you. There is often a delivery around 4 pm. I highly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDon't ever go there!!! Waited 20 minutes to get my order taken. Waited another 58 minutes to ve exact when I finally decided to tell my husband let's go. He went and told them we were gonna pay for the drinks but the food we don't want anymore. One older couple arrived 20 minutes after we did. They're order was taken right after ours which means they Waited nothing. I was walking my kids to the restroom when I SAW AND HEARD THEIR ORDER BEING TAKEN! THEIR FOOD WAS SERVED 20 within minutes of ordering. When my husband told them to cancel our order they were upset. He doesn't speak Spanish so when I saw them aggressively talking to him I got up and told them NO we want to pay for our drinks and we're leaving. Then they had the nerve to say that couple had ordered online. We left and as we were leaving some stupid customer who was picking up his online order decided to talk shit without knowing the situation and she "cook" "ownere" whoever is was was going along with it. While knowing I was listening. As a business owner I WOULD NEVER ALLOW MY CUSTOMERS TO WAIT MORE THAN A CERTAIN TME WITHOUT APOLOGIZING. I WOULD OFFER MORE COFFEE (I HAD ORDERED COFFEE), OR EVEN OFFER AN DESSERT WHILE THEY WAIT BUT THEY DID NOTHING BUT...
