Big Dave's Family Seafood — Restaurant in Forest City

I have never written a bad review but due to the horrible treatment I received for patronizing Big Dave’s Seafood I could not just let it go. I placed a $45 to go order from home by phone time stamped on my phone at 6:49. The lady said it would be ready in 15 minutes. I arrived at 7:04 to pick it up. When I arrived they were not busy and there was a couple ahead of me in line ordering food. When they finished I gave the lady my name she looked around and no orders were up so she said to have a seat. I waited 10 more minutes and a different girl came out into the to go order area from the kitchen and I asked her could she check on my order. She did not go back into the kitchen to look only said they were working on my order. She didn’t ask for my name. I waited 10 more minutes seeing the couple that had ordered in line ahead of me pick up their food and leave and another gentleman order and receive his food and leave. I asked the hostess for the manager. A woman came out and I told her that it had been 45 minutes and my order still was not ready. She went back to the kitchen and another male manager came out and asked me what I ordered. I asked him did he not have my ticket and he said no just give me your order so I can get you your food. I said well this lady lied to me and didn’t check to see if my order was even back there and I’ve already been waiting 30 minutes. He said “maybe you’re lying, first I heard 45 minutes now you’re saying 30 minutes”. I informed him that I called in my order 45 minutes ago and had been there waiting for 30 minutes. Sadly this is the world we live in now. The paying customer is the liar for not getting what they ordered and for their ticket being misplaced and being told it’s being prepared. Go figure! Needless to say, I won’t be back and I have come to realize this is why today’s businesses are struggling. Oh my!!! I love, love, love BIG Dave's!!! This could make my opinion totally biased, but I just absolutely love BIG Dave's!!! I am a fish and seafood junkie! I first tried lunch here several years ago...have not done lunch since!! Lol, I don't care what time it is, anytime is Big Dave's time!!! I especially like to ask wait staff what their recommendation is if I'm not there for one if my favorites! Thing is, once I ask for suggestions, it is my New Next Favorite!! :) No matter what salad I have, it is fantastic! Salads are a must for me since I am a diabetic as well as a fresh veggies fanatic! Salads are awesome at Big Dave's! Their Cole slaw is as well! I have tried so many recommendations I should be a spokes person for this place! They just don't know it or even who I am!! Lol! The Seafood Platter allows you to choose 3 items of your choice plus sides! It is priced very decently for what you get on this plate. I have tried many things I would never have tried if not for the mix n price!! My favorite is stuffed 🦀 crab!!! Ohhhhh myyyyyyyy! Really like scallops as well! However,I was undecided one Sunday evening and was recommended a special fir the day which included 🍤 shrimp and flounder. Have mercy!!! I had 2 plates in one!!! I also had lunch for work!! I am always grateful to the wait staff for their recommendation.They have allowed me to broaden my choices more time than I can count! Not only that but they are attentive, friendly, and very pleasant. You have to enjoy being a waitress to do this job! I know this from doing it myself! It's not always an easy job. Some guests can make it an extremely hard job! I am not one of those! All in all the Big Dave's I love, love, love is one of my mostest favorite place to dine in or out!!! My wife & I have eaten there a few times before, only once was the meal & service satisfactory. So we decided to give them 1 more chance..big mistake! Today we both ordered the Large Oyster Plate which came pretty quickly to my suprise. I was VERY upset as my oysters were all large & my wife's was the size of tiny popcorn shrimp! I traded several pieces with my wife as it wasn't fair & very poor kitchen management to allow 2 identical orders to the same table be so disproportionate to the other. My wife & I were both offended at the tiny oysters served to her & the unequal numbers between our plates, I had 15 & she 16. My smallest oyster was 2-3 times bigger than her largest oyster! I found shells the size of peas in several oysters on my plate as did my wife, 1 almost broke a tooth on. Some oysters was overcooked & some over cooked. You can't cook large & small oysters together & expect equal doneness. I complained to the waitress & she said they get oysters in big buckets & dump into giant colander to rinse off & nothing they can do about it. I call bullcrap. I've cooked oysters at home for years & NEVER have my wife or myself have ever found any shells in ours as I know you must thoroughly rinse oysters even though they are pre-rinsed before packaging. Staff attire was very inappropriate especially for children. A lot of the servers had cut-off shorts close to their butt cheeks & some just a bit lower than that, however was still too short in a supposed religious establishment where children are present. Food was terribly over-priced for the potions served. Will never be back & hope they close the place down.Would have left negative stars if it would have allowed.
