Kyoto Express — Restaurant in Forest City

Monday, September 29, 2025 at 7:30pm. We both had Hibachi Chicken and Shrimp. The chicken was cooked hard and it was dry. The rice was slightly hard. The mushrooms and broccoli was tender and so were the carrots. Our salad had dark slimy brown lettuce and cabbage in it. We asked for another and received it but it was the same. We couldn't eat it. Tiny flies were everywhere and landed in the salad and in the sauces on the table. The yum yum sauce was not cold and had an off flavor. Waitress reached over my plate of food to refill my soda but should have asked for my glass instead. Unsanitary conditions here. Price was 50.00 without tip and way to expensive for the food you receive. No good discussing with the lady at checkout. No discount given. First...

I used to go to both Sakura's in the area, but ever since I started going to Kyoto Express, I have not returned to either one of the Sakura's. Food is presented very well, and is fresh. Service is great compared to the lousy service at Sakura's. Yet they expect a big tip for coming to your table once to take the order. This is mainly at the Forest City restaurant. Spindale is better in this regard. Atmosphere is cozy with a fireplace and the entire restaurant is super clean. And it is far cheaper than Sakura's. Same plate of Terriachi Steak, rice and carrots is $2.50 cheaper than Sakura and you get more for your money. I have found my go to for Japanese cuisine....

Everything here is typical of the hibachi-teriyaki places in the area as far as food goes. Prices are inexpensive as usual. However because they are new things seem chaotic/unorganized service is very slow, (though the place was packed due to after-church-goers). Still, it shouldn't have taken a half hour. In addition, most of the servers speak mainly Spanish and don't understand the Japanese menu all that well. And finally, one of the dishes we ordered had to be sent back because it was incorrect. Don't think I'll be back since nothing stands out from any of the other...
