Retro Cinema 4 — Local services in Forest City

I had this theater rated at 1 star before I realized just how much the owners have sacrificed to keep this place open. So to them I apologize for giving the one star.

I remember going to this place when I was a kid to see inspector gadget. That was about 20 years ago back when the mall was still trashy but far more alive than it is today. I always remember going to that theater.

So when we finally moved here 4 months ago I was appalled to see chairs just sitting on each other broken, no carpet, a shopping cart in the theater.. The outside falling a part and clearly the inside. The ticket prices were what you'd pay at an imax. The only good thing I saw was the screen was very clear and big, and it was cold inside.

I just felt the tickets were way overpriced as the inside was filthy. Coming from Raleigh where we have a 1.50 theater this place was just run down.

I figured the owners were being cheap and not putting a penny into it. Instead the truth is they purchased this place in 09 and have put every last penny they have into it.. The guys even raffling off his car to get much needed money for upgrades. They are doing everything to keep this place afloat and from one business to another I appreciate that and recognize their struggle.

I'll be coming back, the owners are trying to make it better and I'd prefer to give them my money rather than Hendersonville or Shelby.

I can't give this place 5 stars.. Heck there was a bicycle sitting in the chairs!!! But I can bump it up a couple more stars for all the heart and effort they're putting...

I have watched movies here when it only had 2 screens. When Carmike announced they were closing it, I though, what a shame. The cinema was in poor condition before it was relaunched. The new owners have WORKED hard to better it in many ways. The improvements I know cost more than I can imagine. I know the past few times I was there, they were always working on improvements. The last movie I watched there was the Boyscout Zombie movie about a year ago. I know now with my MoviePass card that just came in today, my son and I are going tonight. Even if I have to walk past construction, I will be watching many more movies here, since it will only cost me $10 a month. I can watch every movie they get and I don't have to pay any more. Don’t waste your money on this awful theatre. The literal worst I’ve ever experienced. It’s basically a day care for kids who run around making noise, flashing their phone lights, yelling in the movie, etc. Parents appear to drop off their kids and leave. After so much crazy, I asked the lady in the front to address the children. Instead of taking them out and speaking with them, she yelled at them during the movie multiple times and eventually had them sit separately…yet they were still flashing the screen and yelling to each other. Worst money I’ve ever wasted. So disappointing. Literally anywhere is better than this place. Unless you want to drop your kids off for a date...
