Our experience at this restaurant was ruined by our server’s poor service. While the food was delicious, everything else about our visit was disappointing. We arrived at 5 pm, and there were only two other tables in the entire place. The server took our orders for both drinks and food within 10 minutes, but then disappeared. Twenty minutes later, she was busy washing dishes, and we still hadn’t received our drinks. After staring at her for a while, we finally got our drinks.
Here’s where things really went wrong: Forty minutes after we arrived, the restaurant started filling up, and nearly an hour in, we noticed that other tables who arrived after us were already eating. Meanwhile, we hadn’t even received our three-meatball appetizer. After an hour, the server came over and said she forgot to place our appetizer order, and it had just gone in. When we finally got our appetizer and finished it, she came by again to say she had only just put in our main course order. Wait—what? She not only forgot our initial order but then waited another 20 minutes to actually put it in?
By the time we got our food, everyone who came after us had already left. When she brought the bill, she apologized, saying it was busy. I told her I was upset that we were the first ones in but the last ones served, and we weren’t even offered a complimentary drink or anything to make up for it. I made it clear that this was unacceptable. The service was so poor that the server either needs proper training or shouldn’t be working...
Read moreI have been to other restaurants in the area and have heard reviews from friends about this place. While the food holds up, the service was awful. I had recently come in with my elderly grandparents who were visiting Oregon for the the first time for a special dinner. Our server was rude, curt and acted as though my grandparents were a nuisance to her. She seemed upset from the moment we stepped in the door, threw down some menus, put water in the glasses and walked away. When she finally did come back, her demeanor was something to be less desired. It never changed the whole time. She wouldn't answer questions, was upset when they were asked, and seemed as though we were a general inconvenience. Not to mention so many steps of service just missed. We were happy to pay our large bill just for the taste alone, but we wish our experience had been better. I want to come back just for the food, wine and atmosphere, but the service was embarrassing to your establishment. She needs to learn how to talk to people, especially when the party is large enough for an auto grat. I didn't want to have to review this place in this way, but I'm still upset about how rude she was to all of us, especially to my...
Read moreI have to leave a review for Urban Decanter. TL;DR - You should go, they’re worth every penny.
We’ve been residents of Forest Grove for about a year and a half, and when we first moved here we tried Urban Decanter a few times over the months for dinner. We finally gave up. The food was mediocre and overpriced. Not worth it at all. But a couple months ago we heard they had a new chef who was fantastic. We were leery, but we finally gave them another try. Oh my. Absolutely fantastic. The first time we started with the burrata, and my wife got the cod while I got the chicken paprikash. Everything was absolutely amazing. Absolutely worth it. We went again tonight which prompted this review. They had a weekend menu with a country pork pate with hazelnuts for an appetizer. Oh. Wow. Insanely good. For the entrees my wife got the Mac and cheese, and I got the wine braised short ribs. Again, everything was amazing.
Do yourself a favor. Go here. The new chef is a culinary genius. Thank you, Urban Decanter, for stepping it up and becoming true fine dining in...
