First time at Norman Quack’s in Forest Lake, MN #eatthetc #tcexurbs

So, we've been going to Norman Quacks for over 20 years. My husband always orders their Chicken strip meal which has always been awesome except for last night. Place wasn't busy, no waiting, no one at the bar. Ordered the standard Chicken strip meal (price increased but that's o.k. new they would be worth it), I ordered the Prime Rib meal (another patron ordered it and devoured it). So after waiting a long time the meals came out. Prime rib was small, tough and tasteless; potatoes were cold to where they didn't melt my butter. Needless to say I didn't eat it but I didn't say anything. My husband's Chicken strips came out and we knew instantly they were no good. Instead of being golden brown as usual, they were burnt...... you could smell the burnt grease. Owner walked by, got her attention, let her know this was not up to their usual standard, they were burnt. She had my husband cut into one to see it was cooked through (which we knew they were cause they were burnt)! Tried to let her know in a nice way that this was not the way they usually come out because that's the one thing he gets their religiously. She leaned her forearm on our table and said: "WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO"? (Now mind you, this is the owner). We didn't really want anything other than her apology and to offer a new order. Her response was: they changed the grease earlier and this is normal; which we knew was not the truth. I suggested maybe so, but they left them in too long and they are burnt. She looked at us, let out a sigh, no apology, nothing. My husband said never mind, and she walked away! Now, you would think that with the times being what they are, if patrons are willing to pay higher prices they should at least get the quality food they have been used to. My dinner was so bad and tasteless we wouldn't even bring it home for the dog, potatoes were so cold they couldn't even melt the butter I put on them. We were their one other time with my mother - law, she ordered steak, couldn't cut it, extremely tough. Again, asked for the manager to let her know, and her response: "SOMETIMES STEAKS CAN BE TOUGH, JUST LIKE PEOPLE"! Now, if you don't care if you have a happy customer, or are just tired of having your establishment running your life, it may be time to get out! You are not doing your business any good with an attitude like that. Used to be we would have to wait to get in, people lined up outside. Not this beautiful Friday night at rush hour. We did have great service from our waitress, and had a conversation with her letting her know she did nothing wrong nor was she to blame, (she was concerned we didn't eat or that we didn't want to take it with). After patronizing Norman Quacks for over 23 years, we are removing them from our repituar of favorite places to eat. If she would of at least offered an apology or said she would talk with the kitchen staff, we would of understood. But nothing other than peaking around the corner to see why we were talking to the waitress. We understand times have changed and we have to change with it. But, we do not have to spend our hard earned money at an establishment that seems to have no standards or pride in the products they are serving! NORMAN QUACKS - YOU HAD A GOOD RUN, BUT HAVE NOW FAILED YOUR PATRONS!

I ordered a chicken sandwich without the caramelized onions and add pickles. It came with caramelized onions and tomatoes (tomatoes weren't in the description on the menu) and no pickles. So I wasn't going to eat it. Caramelized onions are too much of a pain to pick off, plus it would still taste like onions. I wasn't even going to say anything, but not long after the waitress came over and asked if there was something wrong with the sandwich. So I told her. She said she told them no onions and went to get the slip to show me. It only said add pickles, not anything about no onion. I didn't bother pointing it out though. She asked if I wanted her to have it remade, which I said no to because it would take too long and everyone else would be done eating soon. And she was like, "Well, will anyone else eat it? Because I don't want to have to charge you for a sandwich you aren't going to eat." My cousin said they would, though. So then the bill comes and the charge to add pickles is on there. I said, "there's a charge for pickles on here, but I didn't get pickles." She said, "You would have had to have said something sooner. I don't think I can take that off now." When would I have said anything? I did say it didn't have pickles, I didn't know I would be charged for them until the bill came. She did see what she could do then, and didn't end up charging for the pickles. The waitress was friendly, but I would never eat here again. I've never been to a restaurant that messes up your order and still charges you for it.

This was my first experience at this establishment and it will most likly be my last. The size of the portions were not in portion to what was charged for the entire meal. The meal came with the choice of soup or salad, to which I had a salad. There was barely enough lettuce on the plate to cover the bottom of the plate. The amount of other toppings on the salad was pittiful. The amount of diced tomato was less than what would cover an average adults thumb nail. The salad was less than impressive. The main dish I chose was the Chopped Steak. Their version of a Chopped Steak is that of a simple HAMBURGER without a bun. It was described as more like a Sailsbury Steak and thats more of what I was expecting... much to my surprise it was not!!! My choice of side was a baked potato. When my plate was brought to me it would've fit 3 or 4 meals by portion size on this enourmous plate. The food quality was NOT the problem. It was simply their plating choice & portion size for the price which was the ENTIRE PROBLEM. THIS MEAL WAS $19.00!!! I wwnt ti the manager after the meal was over and wanted to share my expierence with them, to which I was told I was being verbaly thretening and they called the police on me for attempting to voice my opinion of the food to cost ratio, as well as their over all quality. Whuch again WAS NOT THE ISSUE. I attempted to pay for my meal and they threw me out of the restaurant and proceded to tell me that my meal would be on the house as my money was no good there and simply wanted me out of their establishment. I gave the cooking staff very high marks for the QUALITY of the food, and that was what I was willing to pay for.

If you run a business whether it be a restaurant or a small department store and a CUSTOMER has an issue with either the level of service delivered or the cost of the portion delivered, or expected to be less than stellar it is your duty to take criticism good or bad and use it for improvement in the future. They apperently were offended and took what I was trying to say as constructive critisim and twisted it into simething it was not meant to be. For this reason and this reason alone is why I'll...

This is the 3rd time i have patronized this restaurant. The food was good but the prices are a bit ridiculous. As soon as we sat down the waitress wanted us to look their menu up using a QR code. I'm sorry but I am not here to look up your menu on my phone. Wasting my battery scrolling through my phone.. having my nose in a phone rather then looking at a menu and talking it over with the person you are with.. Phones should be put away and enjoying human company is the point in going out to eat. Give me a physical menu where I can flip flop back and forth reading things until one or the other item really sounds good for the price. We finally got a physical menu and ordered. I ordered a burger that said it was "dripping with BBQ sauce, oozing out of the burger". I was looking forward to the overload taste of BBQ sauce that it described. When I got the burger the only thing that oozed or dripped from the burger was the natural juices of the burger itself. No BBQ sauce was oozing or dripping off the burger as described. Not much barbecue taste really. I was pretty let down. When you describe a burger dripping and oozing with BBQ sauce I am expecting to need many napkins to wipe the sticky barbecue sauce from my fingers as I eat it. Also I ordered their coleslaw. It was very bland. Seemed like just shredded cabbage mixed with mayo thinned with a touch of milk. No spices that are normally in coleslaw dressing. Also we were sat right under their air conditioner. It was blowing on me our entire dinner. I had literal goosebumps during supper.. kept getting chills. Hire a contractor so that they can install directional air flow vents so that you can adjust them.. Point your air upwards so that it does not blow directly on your guests. Its not 95 degrees out anymore. Please fix the air flow.. and make your burgers "as described ". DRIPPING WITH BBQ SAUCE! Not just a hint of BBQ flavor and natural grease and juices dripping out OR lower your prices if you cannot deliver as promised in your descriptions. I guess I will give it another shot as nothing is perfect all the time. Hopefully the next time it will be better....
