Went to the “Another Broken Egg” this morning versus our usual place. Not our greatest decision.
Concerns in order during our visit: Front Staff – very pleasant. I was walked to where my husband was sitting since I dropped him off and went to park our car.
Service – Overall, our server was fine. We did feel very pressured to order quickly, even after we asked her to give us more time. She literally returned a minute later. If a customer still has the menu in their hand, they are probably not ready to order.
Coffee – I needed to order another cup as the first cup was lukewarm – definitely been sitting in the pot for a while – former server, so I know. The taste was nothing special. They make the experience of ordering coffee as if you are getting something amazing and then you are brought Coffee maté creamers. Not so amazing.
Meal – I ordered the Eggs Benedict and my husband the Supreme Omelet. Eggs Benedict – very mediocre. The hollandaise sauce tasted more like mayonnaise with some citrus than hollandaise sauce. The consistency was much thicker than normal hollandaise sauce. The grits that came with my meal were good. Supreme Omelet – terrible and a small portion. My husband could not get past the “smoked” taste of the filling. He was not able to taste the bacon, sausage, or veggies…nothing but smoked flavoring. He ordered the seasonal fruit – an EXTRA charge of $4.69. Don’t waste your money. He also ordered a side of Buttermilk pancakes for an additional cost of $5.69. The pancakes were no more than 3-4 inches in diameter, and you receive two. These would be considered medallion pancakes that kids would order at other restaurants. Definitely do not waste your money. NOT WORTH IT. His meal alone cost $26.37 (not including coffee) – Outrageous, and he walked away hungry.
Pricing – Overly priced for what you get. We paid at least $18 more than our regular place, with less food, and less quality. I get they are the new bougie restaurant in town, but taking advantage of your customer’s bottom line needs to be rethought.
They really push Brunch and cocktails, so maybe this is where the 5-star reviews stem from. I really did want to like this place. We will...
Read moreA fine place for breakfast if you've got two hours. If you're looking for a better southern/Cajun experience, do yourself a favor and just go to Lucille's.
We were seated in the 1/3 full dining room and it was 15 minutes before the waitress greeted us, another 15 minutes before we got our coffee (we were ready to order by this point, since the original greeting, actually, but we were trying not to be pushy), and then another 15 minutes before she came back to take our order. During this time I couldn't really even enjoy my coffee because there were spoonfuls of coffee grounds in the bottom and I was hoping for a new mug.
We finally got our food (five tables, including us, in the dining room by this point) an hour after we sat down. The most frustrating thing about the wait is that there were 3 or 4 staff members sitting at the bar the whole time. I think one was rolling silverware, but the others were just talking.
The food was ok. The "biscuit beignets" were fine. Another review describes them as "donut holes" and I think that's a fair comparison. I ordered crab cake benedict and there was something about it that made my stomach turn. Something tasted rancid or maybe the crab meat was canned... I'm not sure, but I couldn't finish my entree. Our waitress passed by several times, looking at us but not stopping, and a busser cleared the plate before we got a chance to speak to the waitress. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy (I grew up making biscuits and gravy with a southern grandmother) and again, something was just off with the flavor. The sausage was such an odd texture...I was going to say "crumbly" but I think "mealy" is more accurate.
I can say that the grits were good (I wish they were served with real butter and not packets, though) and the pancakes were good! But, overall, I don't think I'd go back. We arrived a little after 1 and didn't leave until 2:30, all to feel underwhelmed and leave with an upset stomach. I was hoping to speak to the manager (he had stopped at a few other tables) but he never...

Came back to try their Hash Brown Eggs Benedict because I have a gluten allergy. The idea of an alternative to english muffins was really appealing. But not only was the dish disappointing but it was ridiculously expensive. The hash browns were cooked in a fryer, probably to get them to hold together. Unfortunately the crust that was created was over cooked and took away from the taste of the dish. Cost wise we could have had a full meal with larger portions at an other restaurant.
My wife and I had a late lunch here. Because it was our first time we got the Beignets complementary. I have a gluten allergy and could not try them but my wife said they were good. My omelet was good with a twist. The twist was the meat and onions were flakes that were embedded in the omelet itself, see the attached photo. I think this is an improvement except I could not really taste the onions. I would have liked some cheese inside of the omelet not just on top.
The potatoes were a bit of a mixed bag. A lot of them were good to eat but there were a number that were just too hard. They had a nice seasoning but a bit over done. And they were not made from fresh potatoes. My wife enjoyed the Eggs Benedict. She especially liked how the eggs were cooked. She thought they...
