So, I absolutely love the food and gelato here, and started going here frequently when it first opened and at that point I rated it 5 stars. The staff is friendly, and I believe I met the owner early on and he was incredibly friendly too.
Unfortunately, it is hard for me to ever justify going here anymore which is really upsetting considering how much I enjoy this place. While some may find it unreasonable, the conundrum for me is that they serve veal. While I have never ordered the veal it still is unnerving to know that my money would help support a store that is helping support the veal industry, and that my business could make up for any loss in profits for doing so.
It is just a moral struggle that I don't really need when buying a meal or dessert. I just don't want to feel guilty for deciding to buy gelato and I find it easier to just avoid this business. While some might think it is an overreaction to feel this way, it is a feeling that I can't overcome, and I doubt I'm the only one.
While I know many people can overlook something they are indirectly contributing to, I believe there are quite a few people who have the same issues with this shop that I do. Honestly, it surprises me that they even are able to sell vegan options at all.
Of course I cant say with certainty, but it seems to me that in a place like Fort Collins they are probably losing more in profits by having veal on the menu than they gain from contributing to the veal industry. So, while I am dubious this review will make a difference, I write it mainly in hopes that the owner will consider what I have said, and may consider removing veal from the menu...
Read moreI chose this as my birthday meal to take with us out to Florissant for a weekend getaway. Been wanting to try it for a few years now.
We did it big by ordering the Chicken Parm entree, Lasagna, Cheese Stuffed Ravioli, and the Chicken Parm Sandwich.
The Chicken Parm entree (we chose linguine pasta) was a perfect large portion and absolutely delicious.
The Lasagna was absolutely phenomenal, albeit quite a small portion. My boyfriend is a Chef, so we fully understand the dedication and time it takes to make all of this from scratch, so I don't wish to complain about the portion of the Lasagna. I am simply sad that I couldn't have twice the amount because it was the best Lasagna I have ever had at a restaurant.
The Ravioli was 6 large pieces with a bunch of sauce. The sauce was so freaking good, and we added it to our leftover Chicken Parm the next day for lunch.
I have no doubt that the Chicken Parm sandwich would be absolute fire if I ate it fresh, but alas, we bought it on a Thursday night and had it the following evening.
I am a portions girl, so I would definitely order the Chicken Parm entree again, but I would get TWO Lasagna instead. I would also totally order the Chicken Parm sandwich again, but I would probably eat it in the car on the way home so that my boyfriend can't get a hold of it, haha!
We loved it, and it's so refreshing to know that we have a nearby location for handmade,...
Read moreI really really really wanted to love this place. I have been driving by for 4 years and just stopped in for the first time. I was the only customer and told the person who took my order it was my first time time in. she was very kind and told me my order would be ready in about 10 minutes and she would bring it to me outside (no inside seating. 90 degrees outside and smokey with the Anderson fire nearby. I waited outside for about 25 minutes enjoying the gelato and got hot so went inside to cool off and check out the deli and Italian wares. was not acknowledged so mentioned to the counter person, 'are we getting close? it's been over 20 minutes.' she apologized and got my baked rigatoni out of the warmer saying she thought I already had received it. what I got was barely baked rigatoni overcome with ricotta and tinged with red sauce. really not even edible based on my expectations. the menu states something along the lines of 'tossed in ricotta and served in a pool of red sauce'. I don't usually write less than positive reviews but this comes from a place of love for food and being tired of spending money ($30 for lunch) on sub-standard fare. I will go back but not for pasta. the pistachio gelato was delicious!
p. s. the cursing in the kitchen was very entertaining but probably...
