Tried this place tonight, after seeing good reviews and pictures that seemed like the food would be more “upscale” than just your average hole in the wall place. However, I honestly feel like most of those types of ethnic restaurants have way more flavor than this food had. While the portion sizes were pretty good, the food itself was very under seasoned, luke warm and nothing to be excited about. We had Salmon Teriyaki and two fried rice dishes. The salmon was over-cooked and under seasoned, if not nearly no seasoning, the asparagus definitely had zero seasoning, and the house fried rice was a bit over cooked for having no color to it, and under seasoned as well. The teriyaki was the only thing that really gave the food any real flavor, and that as well was underwhelming as well as space. We asked for extra and it came out ice cold, so it made the food even less warm. The shrimp in one of the fried rice dishes also had no flavor and felt like you could tell it was frozen by its texture.
We truly wanted to love this place based on all the of the good reviews, but with the prices and how much it was lacking in flavor, it unfortunately will not be a spot we return to.
We did however appreciate the fact that the only two people working front of house (one also clearly serving as the expo) we’re doing the best to do multiple job...
Read moreThis is a cute, clean little spot in a great location on the edge of old town. None of the staff when we came were Thai (American and Chinese). You can usually be fairly sure you won’t be getting very authentic Thai if the staff aren’t Thai (although I never saw who was in the kitchen), but if there were any questions bringing the Pad Thai out with chopsticks and giving us fortune cookies after our meal confirmed this is not authentic. Overall the service was good but we were underwhelmed by the food. Since tom kha soup is one of my favorite foods I was really excited to try theirs.
Sadly the tom kha soup was by far the most disappointing part of our meal. It was really bland, almost like they forgot something. If I’m guessing it probably had too little or zero fish sauce. I am also never a fan of putting tomatoes in Tom Kha, but that doesn’t really affect the taste.
The chicken satay was pretty standard, the peanut sauce was nice and thick.
Cream cheese wontons were really runny and lacking flavor, but as they aren’t a traditional Thai dish I wouldn’t knock them for that.
The Pad Thai was pretty good. Level 5 had decent heat, although I’m not sure I’d consider it Thai hot. The noodles were a little undercooked but overall we enjoyed it and would give it...
Read moreWe just wanted dinner. Sigh.
Very short version: we put in an online order via the restaurant's website to pick up. Pad Thai with Chicken. Definitely chicken. Double-checked the order when we got back home, empty-handed and with no food. Yes, it was Pad Thai with chicken.
I emphasize this because somehow the online system replaced "chicken" with "tofu". Hey, no biggie. Technology failed us and failed the restaurant. No one's fault, yeah? Except when the discrepancy became apparent, the cook/owner came out front and became...aggressive. Not physically, that would be news-worthy. Just aggressive. She felt the need to continually say things like, "We're not going to remake anything, and you'll pay for this one, we already made it, YOU ordered tofu so we made tofu..." Yes. We get it. Lady, I'm not asking you to remake anything. I'm not marching into your restaurant making demands. It was an honest mistake.
I left there a bit stunned, and of course with no food to show for it. Mistakes happen, but to stand there and accuse a customer without any hint of mea culpa was insulting, and frankly kind of embarrassing to behold. So I left angry, gaslit, and hungry.
Their pad thai is good, though. I recommend it...
