I did my research on reviews and got an appointment here. I hadn't had my hair done professionally in over 10 years and I wanted so thing bold done. I put in my notes how I had box dyed my hair 4 months prior as to prepare them so they knew what to expect going in since I wanted multiple colors. I have dirty blonde hair past my shoulders. Wanted a cute shaggy layered cut above the shoulders and wanted hot pink and purple through out. Showed her references and she went with the brightest colors she had. She told me she was awesome at brights and looked forward to this. I'm was excited....... Then she just went a chopped my hair wicked short above my shoulders and at just a flat straight cut to where I told her I looked like lord farquad š IFKYK. I wasn't happy. Neither side was cut even. She gave me bangs so short on one side that I had to retrain my hair to "sit" cause I looked rediculous how I used to part it. Now she starts putting in the color.. Didn't do anything to my hair, Just cut then straight to putting hot pink on my hair. Then the dark purple. I thought it was weird she didn't lighten my hair but hey, I'm not the professional. Well.. After an hour of the coloring and 10 min of it staying on my roots she washed it in extremely cold water. Which to not even my surprise took almost all the color out. Nothing stayed like it should have. My roots looked the same. Color splotches in spots. Super bright under my hair in the back. It didn't last a week. She took before pics but non after if that says anything. Then she re-booked me to have a redo on them. THREE weeks later I get in, basically no color left and I'm told that it will cost me almost $70 more because they need to lighten it & that wasn't included in the og price. I said after spending over $225 plus a $50 tip in this economy to not get what you asked for is not acceptable. I didn't trust that spending another $70 would get the color to stay. I had zero faith in the stylist. Plus my hair wasn't cut even so when I asked her to make it even..didn't even bother to check the sides or use t comb to see if both sides were straight. She didn't even touch one side at all when I asked for the fix. I left super sad about myself, uneven hair that is way shorter then I asked, zero color boldness, zero color. Zero happiness. I won't ever be back. I have pics before and after if ya want...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy last visit (I always allow 3 for them to try to get the hang of my hair and style) was an unqualified disaster. I have lots of hair and after 65 years of having all that hair, want it the way I want it. I bring pictures and try to explain in hair lingo what I want. I have a very strong cowlick on the nape of my neck that needs weight to keep it in line. I told her that so the first couple of times she feathered the neckline. The 3rd time I told her I did not want the back feathered because that cowlick flips the hair out when it is feathered. I told her I wanted a blunt cut, preferably stacked. So she started feathering it. As I was struggling with the gal to get the cut I wanted, I heard the gals downstairs talking among themselves and one said, and I am paraphrasing: I am the professional here. I will cut your hair the way I think it needs to be cut. As if she did not have to answer to anyone because she was the professional. In my 65 years of experience I have worked with many professionals (a few were hair stylists) but the best incorporated customer service into their work. Early in my career I learned that customer service was a simple concept. There were only 2 rules: #1 the customer is always right; and #2 if the customer is ever wrong, refer to rule #1. When you are paying me to model your hairstyles, then cut it however you want. But when I am paying, I want it cut the way I want it cut. And my rules are if I have to glue my hair with product to get it to stay put, or burn it with a curling wand to get it to curl, or change the way I have been styling my hair for 65 years because you don't know how to give me a style, then you don't know how to cut my hair. My final complaint about the last cut ( and there were several complaints) was that because I have so much hair it needs to be thinned periodically around my face or it overwhelms my face. I asked her to thin it and instead she textured the ends. On my hair that is 2 different procedures. I will never go back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy absolute favourite salon in heart of Old Town. I love the staff, the passion for healthy hair, the aesthetic of the salon and boutique, the talent that the Owner finds (and the talent that synchronistically finds its own way there!), the vibe of the clients, the commitment to efficiency and detail and good hair health. And the Owner has a heart of Gold. Every single time I leave the salon I feel like a million dollars.
Roots remembers all the little details like the water temp I prefer for shampooing, they take extra care with the scalp massage, and I feel like a VIP every time! Complimentary drinks, great conversation. And what I particularly appreciate is how much the salon artists and stylists are passionate about what they do! They stay on top of the latest trends and are constantly honing their techniques AND teaching others as they go.
The mentorship program the Owner has in place has absolutely elevated Roots to the next level. It has been amazing to watch through the years (I have been a client since the doors opened at Roots!) as new stylists are trained, apprentice under the seasoned stylists and the Owner, and then watch them grow and thrive into respected stylists themselves, with waitlists to match.
My styles and colours and length have changed over the years, and I am so comfortable allowing them the freedom to cut and/or colour and/or glaze in the way they recommend that would best compliment my style, look, or goals at the time of each visit.
I am so delighted to sing the praises of Roots Beauty Studio & Boutique and refer to Roots with admiration and pride for so artfully + consistently + professionally representing Fort Collins and being a divine salon experience.
High value....
