Sadly, another iconic and stellar restaurant, has plunged into mediocrity following an ownership change. We’ve been going to the Silver Grill since moving to Fort Collins as kids, in the early 1980s. It was always something to look forward to, and a genuine treat to enjoy a fabulous breakfast at the Silver Grill, which we have done for years. Eggs Benedict was always my favorite, but anything on the menu was delicious. The Benedicts have changed, along with the ownership. Over the last 12 months or more, the hollandaise sauce has become totally bland, and has lost its robust flavor profile. The color is lackluster and dull, and the consistency has gone from rich and thick, to thin and uninspiring. For Benedicts, it is all about the hollandaise sauce. At first, we attributed the changes to someone having a bad day in the kitchen; after all, who in their right mind would take something proven incredibly successful over decades, and modify that formula of success? My last attempt at a Benedict was heartbreaking. The sauce was terrible, there were two pieces of see-through shaved ham, and the hash browns were burnt crisps of carbon that were inedible. On my last trip to the Grill, I mentioned my Benedict observations to the server, and she said: “yes, they are not what they used to be.” So, I ordered the corned beef and hash instead. Regrettably, that serving was not just bad, it was terrible. Sadly, we have given up on the Silver Grill, and are feeling the void left after so many years of...
Read moreSuper poor experience this past weekend at Silver Grill. This was a must stop for us every time we visited Fort Collins, and was our first time back in close to three years. We had a party of 8, and we were sat at a table that was maybe for 6 people, but for sure not 6 adults and two kids. We asked if we could move to the much larger table next to ours (which had just been cleaned) but were told a party of 7 had been notified that their table was ready. We had not yet ordered, so no reason they couldn't take our table and we move to the larger table. We then asked if they could take one of the smaller two tops attached to another two top and move it over, and we were told no. We then watched them seat two people at those exact tables (2 tables to make a 4 top), which does not make sense. The 7 top was then brought in, and it was 2 adults and 4 little kids. We asked one more time if they could find a different spot to sit as the 6th adult did not have anywhere to place their food or drinks, but we were told sorry, to take it or leave it. Well, we left it. The waitress was very nice and tried to help at the end, but the manager would not budge. We had heard that since the Silver Grill had been sold the service went downhill, but we didn't expect to be treated so rudely. I put a 5 star for the food because someone in the group purchased a cinnamon roll to go and it was amazing as always, but we did not wait around for any other food. Best of luck to Silver Grill, we will...
Read moreWe had a party of five and arrived at about 11am on a Sunday, and it was super busy. They told us it’d be a 40 minute wait which was no problem, we put our name on the list and waited to be called.
About 10 minutes later we were called up which was great! Got to the host stand, told the hostess that we’re ready to sit but missing one member of our party. She said that was no problem, and told us to wait by the host stand and someone would come to seat us.
The last member of our party joined us, and after about ten minutes we were still waiting. Went back up to the host stand to ask when our table would be ready, and we were informed our table had been given away. This was obviously really frustrating, but they apologized and told us that we were back on top of the list and they’d get us seated as soon as possible. Not the end of the world, it was busy and mistakes happen, so we went back to waiting.
About 15 minutes later, we got a text saying our table was ready once again. Went back up to the host stand and wouldn’t you know it, they somehow gave our table away again in the minute or so it took us to talk to the hostess! They offered a half baked apology and basically said there was nothing they could do, they didn’t seem especially concerned.
Twice, while standing in the restaurant five feet from the host stand, they gave our table away in front of us! That was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. We will...
