I just recently stopped by the Hy-Vee Starbucks, since my coworkers kept telling me it was the best one in town. Well, I thought I’d treat myself and give it a try. A sweet young girl with the most beautiful brown hair helped me with my drink. She was kind, patient, and really took the time to make sure I got what I wanted.
But then, right in the middle of her helping me, the loud intercom started blaring, calling for her to go “check and courtesy.” I was so confused — she was the only one working behind the counter at the time! Before she could even explain, another woman, who I assume was the manager, came over and spoke to this poor girl in such a sharp, rude tone, questioning why she couldn’t leave me standing there to go help elsewhere.
It honestly broke my heart. This young lady was working so hard and treating customers kindly, yet she was scolded right in front of us. The drinks were good, yes, but the way that manager treated her ruined the whole experience. It delayed everything, made it uncomfortable, and frankly, it was just plain disrespectful.
As an older woman who has seen her share of workplaces, I’ll tell you this — no good ever comes from tearing down your employees in front of others. That girl deserved praise, not humiliation. I can’t recommend this location if this is how they treat...
