December 23rd at 11:45 a.m. I experience the most odd behavior from the lady that worked the register.. Everyone knows it's rude and impolite downright disrespectful when a customer hands you their credit card to pay, instead of you delivering their credit card back to their hand you set it down on the counter top and take the next customer. ( If someone hands you their money you hand it back to them because it's all about respect),.. my food was already ready because i called it in as I was waiting my food was sitting behind the counter at the end waiting for pickup I stood waiting she never handed it to me I'm literally now watching her handle the next customer she handed his change their directly to his hand when she was done with them I asked her if she could give me my food she pointed and said that's your stuff right there I said okay great can you give it to me she said it's right there you can grab it (mind you it's literally a couple steps behind the counter) I said I didnt want to step behind your counter can you just bring it to the register where I was standing she refused I literally had to step behind the counter to grab my own bags I expressed to her how her behavior was rude she smiled with no worries in the world no concerns and gaslighted my feelings I walked out and turn back to look through the door just to see if she would deliver that next customer's food to his hand sure enough she delivered it directly to him he was a Caucasian man and I'm a black woman gentleman stepped outside I asked him did he notice what just happened he immediately said yes and apologize for the ladies Behavior I told help it wasn't his fault we laughed about it he replied it was weird when she delivered my food directly to me I said I know I was looking through the door I come often and I've never seen her do anyone...
Read moreThe diner itself is pretty standard American styled. Went on a Saturday for lunch, so it was quite busy but our party of 4 was seated immediately. Luck of the draw. But because of the busy time, our server seemed to be rushed. As a first time patron of this establishment, it wasn't the best impression when we wanted to ask questions about the menu.
I didn't find the food here extraordinary or special. I ordered a Deluxe Cheeseburger and while I expected it to be pretty "normal", a part of me was hoping to taste a burger that would have me recommending the restaurant to someone. Not gonna happen for that item.
My partner ordered a veggie omelette and was totally disappointed with what arrived. Since the beginning of life, when the dinosaurs roamed the Earth, veggie omelette's traditionally contained mushrooms, onions, red/green bell peppers. So we didn't expect it to come with something drastically different (considering the menu doesn't mention the ingredients). What arrived was an omelette with water chestnuts, carrots, snap peas, and broccoli. When we asked the waitress if we ordered the wrong thing or if there's an omelette with mushrooms, onions, and peppers, she seemed defensive and said "It's a preset mix of veggies. If you want mushrooms, onions, and peppers you could have chosen to create your own omelette"... It was obvious that the cooks just use frozen Asian veggie medley. And while there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, the menu should specify the ingredients list.
The other 2 people in my party enjoyed their omelette's but did say that both lacked seasoning. Something that isn't the biggest deal.
I'd probably return and try the place again when it's less busy. Maybe the food is made with more love during...
Read moreThe next time you're hankering for a small mom and pop cafe, Egg & You Diner is the ideal of what that type of place should be. The atmosphere, while.. a bit rustic, is clean and organized. The staff is polite and knows every stitch of the menu. I found the service to be on par with the pace of my dining experience, always a tough balance to strike. Our server did it with aplomb. The food, too, is as it should be in one of these hallowed culinary halls: delicious plentiful, and consistent. My personal favorite is the corned beef hash with a couple of sunny-side eggs on top. Typically, the blueberry pancakes are out-of-this-world. On this occasion, however, they happened to be a bit doughy in the middle, not that that stopped either i, nor my dining companion, from absolutely destroying them. Speaking of my dining companion, she was craving bacon and eggs; crunchy corners of toast to drag through the yolks. She satisfied that craving and more. As a first timer to Egg & You, she was thoroughly impressed. Overall, Egg & You Diner is one of those Fort Lauderdale establishments that makes the city what it is: warm, consistent,...
