June 2022 update: We again didn’t plan well and after work today we needed food. Lots of Latin food this week so went with Asian. Totally forgot about these guys (sorry!) but saw them nearby and I wanted delivery. My better half wanted to dine in so we trekked back out. This time, it was a mostly Filipino meal with the adobo pork bao, lumpia, sisig, pork adobo entree. It was cheaper to come in than delivery and boy were we happy. Even got a bottle of sake, because we could. Totally worth the effort. Service was attentive and friendly. I’ve sent a message to our usual dinner date that WE must all come back here. I’m also planning my next meal here. You guys are fabulous! Thank you! We did not plan our day well so I did not get dinner made. Back home and no food even here, I had to punt. Delivery Dudes to the rescue! (They are a LOCAL food delivery company) Scrolling through their options I knew I needed soup. Heartburn has been burnin so no Italian soups. Ramen is a hearty meal full of goodness. I liked their options so I pass the phone and let honey decide if he wants to order from here. Pad Thai it is. I saw another soup had something called sour spicy mustard but mine didn’t have it. In the notes I asked if I may get a small side of it along with the rest of the meal.
All comes in and we tear into the bag. All proper utensils were provided along with napkins. The soup was packaged in 2 containers, dry and wet. I got my side of the sour mustard! (Now I know and you will in 5 seconds- it is pickled mustard greens!) The broth was still crazy hot! The pad Thai was also HOT! I needed a pot holder to handle the containers.
I’m already impressed. I take my first bites and sips and there were no regrets. We were both impressed. The soup has lots of bits to it and the greens were the perfect touch. The pad Thai was chewy and tasty and savory. Oh! The dumplings! As I was at home, there was no one to judge me as I sipped that ponzu along with a dumpling. Tell no one, k?
We have some places we order from but have no inclination to visit. We told another buddy and we are now looking to set up a dinner date at the restaurant. Woo hoo!
Apologies for the length of the review. It was worth it. Just try to keep a table...
Read moreThis place already had expectations set to “medium”, though typically I usually set expectations to none when I see a restaurant with the words “asian fusion”. However, KUBO SURPASSED even the highest expectations one would have of a place that looks like a “dive” serving high quality food 🥘 🍱 🍲 at affordable prices in a comfortable setting.
Now onto some trivia or just something that piqued my curiosity and didn’t have the time to ask the owner’s is that “KUBO” is for us Pilipino’s “Bahay Kubo” as the logo would suggest. If in fact that is the representation, how appropo… MABUHAY!!!❤️🇵🇭
Doing “asian fusion” is definitely a challenge 🌊. Me and my family have visited enough to know that it isn’t easy because sometimes there are too many or not enough things on the menu. KUBO, in our opinion executes this with the right balance.
We came in for lunch and had: Filipino-Pork Adobo, Korean-Beef Bulgogi, Thai-Pad Thai Lunch Special/Shrimp and Chicken Pad-Thai, Japanese-K6.Sashimi & Unagi Don Bento Box, Chinese-Soft Shell Crab Bao Bun, Carribean-Spicy Octopus and Conch Salad and for desert Filipino-Halo-Halo.
Everything we ordered was DEVOURED!!! The funny story about the Pad-Thai is that, I asked my daughter if I could have a taste of her Pad-Thai Shrimp (I wanted to see if it was tasty enough that I could order the Chicken and I ordered the Chicken to go). The only suggestion we have is about the Halo-Halo. The presentation is wonderful, the challenge was mixing and eating it. Maybe if it were served in like a “goblet” or “schooner” it would be less messy. But, overall the presentation and taste was just like “back home”.
Though me and my friends are from out of town (our kids go to school in Davie), we have found a place we can and will always go to… KUBO😎😎😎😎

Read moreThis is my go-to place when I’m craving Asian food. The portions are good, the quality of the food is amazing and prices are not bad! I have had different dishes, so here’s a list of what I have tried with my overall rating (disclamer: this is based on my food preferences)
-Bao Buns: 4/5 ⭐️I loved the shrimp tempura more then the beef, but I have to accept the sauce from the beef ones is AMAZING! The bun has an incredible texture, and overall is perfect as an appetizer -Tonkotsu Ramen: 5/5 ⭐️ if you like ramen, this is a high quality product. I order it with shrimp, but you can choose between different protein options. The broth is creamy and full of flavor! One of my favorites! -Poke Bowl (salmon Poke Bowl): 4/5 ⭐️. Really fresh ingredients. The portion on this one is smaller than the regular portions from the place, but overall is really good! -Drunken UDON (Khoi Mao): 3/5⭐️. If you like basil, this is your plate! It has onions, red bell peppers and snow peas. Sauce is good, it just tastes too much like basil for what I like. I recommend having it with beef.
-Edamame: 5/5⭐️. You can NEVER go wrong with edamame.
-Sushi: 5/5⭐️. I won’t lie, I’m a big sushi fan. They have extremely fresh ingredients and multiple options to chose from. My favorites are: salmon skin rol and California roll (I like classic rolls).
Tip: if you go at lunch time, they have specials on sushi, noodles and...
