I really don’t like giving a bad review but I tried it out for the first time and there were two things that were seriously a problem. The guacamole was $12 for a average serving appetizer and he said it is handmade every day the problem is, it was almost ice cold, which probably meant they made it that morning and put it in the refrigerator which was colder than my refrigerator and it almost hurt my teeth. It was so cold. I am not a foodie at all. I googled that question and in general most concur it should be served at room temperature or lightly cooled. I thought about sending it back, but I did not. It had a decent texture, but really, no spices or flavoring. There may have been some, but it was so cold is deadened my taste. The chips were nice and the presentation was nice but I regretted ordering it and then we ordered three tacos which were small but tasty. The problem is that they cost 550 each and too small. We shared 3 tacos and left hungry. I would suggest charging $12 or something, I think if that were the case we both would’ve ordered three tacos. the octopus taco was very good and I would recommend that. I won’t be going back there if that’s how they’re going to make the guacamole. I don’t have the answer about how guacamole should be served but if you’re going to chill it, it shouldn’t be super cold. I know times are tough and prices are up and the little tacos were actually good but just too small and also they charge for the chips. I think seven dollars for chips. I don’t know what the answer is but in general these tacos are kind of street food. And street food usually is simple and a good value and just did not work for me...
Read moreGreat food, ambiance, and service. The reason for a star deduction is the price. It is $5 for one taco. Chips and salsa are $4. A side of black refried beans are $5. I had two tacos and chips/salsa and it was $16 with tip. Everything is a la carte. They use fresh and quality ingredients, however, this is the pricing I would expect to pay on Las Olas.
The chips are freshly fried tortillas so they are thick and delicious. The salsa was fresh and addicting! I had a steak taco that was made with tender and well seasoned meat. It was topped with cilantro, chopped onion, and cojita cheese. The carnita taco was topped with caramelized onions, chopped onion, and cilantro. The tacos are served on small corn tortillas.
They did a great job decorating. The same artist designed the tables and art work on the walls. They have a wall down the hallway that they ask guests to write on. The owners are on site and make you feel like family. They want to ensure your satisfaction.
There is a small bar with four seats. They have a beer and wine license. They make margaritas with a wine tequila that is lower alcohol than regular tequila. They said they add more to make up for the lower % of alcohol!
They have vegetarian options on the menu.
There is parking in the attached lot. The spots closer to the door are metered. The parking spots facing Commercial Boulevard are free.
Overall, I had a great experience, but...
Read moreI had high hopes given the the star rating (did not go through the reviews to see pictures). If you know authentic Mexican food and come from a place where they double tortilla the tacos and give it with onion and cilantro along with the green and red salsa and the queso fresco then this establishment is NOT IT. First of all everything is a la cart, 1 taco cost $5.50 and you have to pay for the crema (which is actual sour cream not actual crema) on the side which is $2 for approximately for a table spoon. My taco came out on one tortilla, which got soggy and broke when folded to eat. There was no cilantro, barely any onion, but a lot of finely chopped tomato. We ordered chips and salsa, the chips were probably the best part of the meal because they were homemade and tasted nice but they give you a shot glass size of salsa for a bowl that’s shareable for 2 ppl. The salsa was watery. The taste was below average for everything especially for the price. I’ve gotten $5 x 3 street tacos with everything better than this. My friend got the burrito bowl and when she expressed her discontent with the meal the one server with blonde hair was just behind her shaking her head and rolling her eyes. The overall establishment and atmosphere is simple and our server, a young man, was nice but it doesn’t make up for the food. I will not be...
