Family restaurant with character, warmth and so much beauty to walk around and discover. Beauty with the Koi fish and all the elaborate decor is just fun to explore. My favorite (other than the food) is the display of pictures throughout the years…. So much joy, love and happiness has occurred in this restaurant. Family restaurants that do it right are a favorite place to be, for me. — I rarely take a picture of a bathroom (never if a person is there) but this bathroom is clean, beautiful, fully stocked, and again, more memories in picture form to further feel the warmth of this restaurant. Throughout the years we have been here a handful of times and I always felt the same about this pleasant restaurant and liked the food but I had never explored the menu like I did this experience on a Monday at 11 am and I am glad I did as I am now a LOVER of the food and not just the environment.
The waitress was super friendly and has been working at this restaurant for 27 years— WHAT???? Wow- loyalty is certainly another indicator of a great restaurant. In any event she was helpful in ordering as I really just wanted a couple appetizers that I had not tried before….I have always wondered what shrimp toast was but never ordered. After reading the amazing reviews about their shrimp toast I was motivated to order but my husband doesn’t eat seafood and it’s a pretty big appetizer and I was getting more food.. the waitress was emphatic about how good they are and I ordered them, as well as, chicken potstickers to split, wonton soup, and chicken fried rice for our kiddo for after school but I wanted to try at the restaurant.. chicken fried rice was good… standard but good standard and I enjoyed it as did our kiddo. The chicken potstickers are not my favorite (in the soup they were better) and I wouldn’t order again but my husband loved them. I am used to the pfchangs and these were very different- felt healthier but just dry…. Again, he thought they were great. The wonton soup was AWESOME and the fact they make it with chicken is so cool as well as we don’t eat a lot of pork so we never do the wontons in most places… Above all though and my favorite new treat -food is their shrimp toast, that I almost talked myself out of ordering…. Holy moly!!!! it was amazing and it was hard to put it down no matter how full I was as it’s toasted perfectly and the flavors are just all really good and while it’s a fried dish it just didn’t feel too oily at all and was just well… perfect, perfect crunch, flavor, texture, dip, all of it…. This toast is why this restaurant will get to know our smiling faces at least a couple times a month……..
When I took all the leftovers home I was excited to share the shrimp toast with our 11 year old as she also loves shrimp. I air fried it to heat it up and it maintained a good amount of the crunch and she LOVED it too… we already have a mom/daughter date to go back.
Definitely get the shrimp toast….this was a celebration for my husbands birthday so we went a bit crazy with ordering a variety and this was the perfect restaurant to do this as I fell in love with a restaurant I have always admired and enjoyed going to but just hadn’t found MY dishes :) We (I) will forever order the shrimp toast and wonton soup……. i will keep trying all the main dishes to find my fav and will Update….
Husband got a chicken noodle dish that I can’t remember the name of… he enjoyed it very much and I also thought it was very good (pictured)….like me, he LOVED the wonton soup and he also enjoyed the potstickers…
Last note, they serve Pepsi products and while I prefer Diet Coke I never expect a restaurant to have both. Husband asked if they had any while I was at the car and the waitress got me a can of diet Coke with a glass of ice… LOVEd that as any meal is better with your drink of choice. I figured- family restaurant cause someone in their family doesn’t like Pepsi- or just an incredibly considerate restaurant….
Thank you for a wonderful experience. We will...
Read moreHonestly, We were so excited to finally be eating here. Our friends really like the place and had great things to say about it but the food was very subpar. (Some of our friends tend to be impressed by simple food.)
The Food: Most of the cheap Chinese take out places I’ve eaten at in my life have much more flavorful food. Sadly, There is nothing interesting about the food here at all. I was very surprised by this. The inflated prices just make you think it’s going to be better than it really is. We were a party of 6. We all tasted each others meals. The average entree was $25-$30. We all intentionally ordered something different so we could taste 6 different entrees. None were memorable or seasoned very well at all.
We also ordered 4 different appetizers. The $16 crab rangoons were plump but didn’t have any crab or imitation crab in them that we could see or taste. They had fresh garlic in them which made them taste better than most. In the end, They’re still just cheap crab-less cream cheese wontons like you’d find at a cheap takeout place. Very disappointing. The shrimp roll was all cream cheese (too sweet) and 1 shrimp with no flavor. The potstickers/dumplings were bland.
We all agreed that the steak appetizer was tender and tasty and all portions (meals and apps) are relatively generous.
The Dining Room: This restaurant is an interesting and festive place but they really need to dust. I could see the thick years-old dust on curtains and hanging lanterns from 1/2 way across the restaurant. For a place that’s supposed to be a little upscale they need to pay attention to these details. I know that anyone with half decent vision can see all that dust. You couldn’t miss it.
The Service: I could tell the server was a generally unfriendly and disgruntled person. Nevertheless, We were very nice to her- as one should be. She really wasn’t welcoming or warm though. She also put one of our orders in wrong on the check. My boyfriend ended up eating that expensive dinner he didn’t order because they said it would be a 15 minute wait until the correct meal could come out. The others servers who were refilling drinks, helping bring food to tables, and packaging meals were nice and followed standard etiquette that servers should follow. You are 100% just paying for the atmosphere here. I don’t think we’ll be going back unless someone in our friend group...
Read moreWas in Kentucky shopping the 127 yard sales and decided to try somewhere new to us. I had my phone pull up the top rated Asian cuisine in Northern Kentucky and this restaurant was presented.
Stepping through the door, we soaked in the calming but opulent atmosphere. We received impeccable service, at no time did our beverages get below half full, and a glass of extra ice was provided to keep my ice tea cold. Our server presented as if we were their most important clients.
Once our orders were placed, we took a moment to view our surroundings from our cozy semi-circle both. all the while there was live piano music and the faint sound of babbling water from any of the three koi ponds. I observed every table being attended to diligently.
The crab rangoon was one of the best I've had, compared to Asian establishments in the mid-western part of Ohio. Not only were they served hot, they were seasoned on the sweeter side and you could see small chunks of crab when broken apart.
I ordered the fried eggplant with chicken and green beans in a sesame sauce. You can order this dish with your choice of protein or as vegetarian. A very generous portion was provided with your choice of rice. I selected steamed. I am a fan of the eggplant and like to try it when it is available at a new restaurant I am visiting. I would definitely order this dish again.
My husband always gets the Moo Goo Gai Pan. He was impressed that the dish was not soaking in a plate fully sauce, but has substantial amount of chicken, mushrooms, carrots and cabbage. Said it was the best version of Moo Goo Gai Pan he has had so far.
After our meals had been boxed up, and we were waiting on our check. Our server arrived with a complimentary dessert in honor of or first visit. In addition the the Owner stopped at our table to thank us for coming. That extra touch makes you feel special and welcomed.
We will revisit again, bringing our daughter...
