El Matador | Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Fort Oglethorpe

I have so much i can say about this restaurant since i have an extended personal kind of history with it and the staff. My mother worked there in her teenage years and some of the staff as well as the owner would help babysit while my mom would work, but for an honest review's sake i will remain unbiased when saying that this is the only Mexican restaurant i ever visit. The owner Maria does her job extremely well and works just as hard as any of the other staff members there. The same people have worked there since i was old enough to remember, if that tells you anything. They are all extremely fast, friendly and very attentive even wihile business is booming. The food is always fantastic with generous portions, and arrives at damn near ungodly speeds. They take care of all their customers and i recommend them to anybody and everyone i can. The prices are ridiculously cheap compared to any other Mexican restaurants ive ever visited. If you haven't been here, please go because you won't be disappointed in any way. If there was anything i could change, i would make the restaurant bigger, just because of the fact that when they have busy days, they're busy busy so you may wait because it's easy for them to pack that place out. They lose no stars for that though, because literally everything else about that place is top tier and they are very good about making sure you get seated asap. With that being said, please go visit the place. You most definitely wont be disappointed. If i could give them a 10 star...

Approximately 6 months to a year ago, I wrote a review about El Matador is was quite complimentary. My family and I have been going there for many, many years and were always please. Something is changing there the last three months approximately 7 visits or more. I have noticed a difference is the quality of the food and taste. I really hate this because the restaurant is close by and has in the past been very good. I hope this find the correct person to get a hold of this situation. The quality and service is not what it use to be nor is the food. We eat there almost bi weekly. Just the other night the waitress brought out the food set it down and it wasn't what we order. Immediately after I asked the waitress what this was and she recognized that not what we order. She went back to get our order and It came out wrong again but we accepted it because it was close to what we order. Later while paying, I noticed it seem kind of higher than usually I realize prices have gone up we eat out probably four times a week. The cashier ask, if I wanted a receipt I said yes but when I got it the receipt it was not itemized. I really feel like we got charged for actually what came out first time to our table but will never know because I didn't want to wait any longer. I paid left a tip and moved on. I will say that El Matador still has the best sweat tea around but that want keep me coming back. I hope they can get a handle on this because its close to the house and once...

Awful customer service.

I received the incorrect meal, and when I tried to return it and explain that it wasn't what I ordered, they told me it was not their concern. They claimed they couldn't afford to lose money because of someone else's mistake, even though I was at a table of four and had clearly stated my order. I spoke with the manager, who came over and said, "I clearly heard you order..." from 25 feet away!!

After about three minutes of back and forth, she finally agreed to make a new plate for me.

In the end, I decided not to reorder my meal, fully aware that they could do whatever they wanted while the customer was not watching...

I strongly recommend avoiding this restaurant. They are terrible at their job, take no pride in what they serve, and show an extremely low level of customer service. And to top it off, they had the nerve to charge me for the meal that I specifically did not order. And I didn't even eat. So I was sitting at a table of...
