Don Chico Isn't Just a Meal, It's an Experience! I have officially found my new go-to for authentic Mexican cuisine, and its name is Don Chico Mexican Restaurant. From the moment you step through the door, you're not just a customer; you're family. The vibrant, festive atmosphere is immediately welcoming, but the real magic begins with the food and the incredible hospitality. Let's talk about the star of the show: the fajitas. I've had my fair share of fajitas over the years, but Don Chico's are on an entirely different level. Before the plate even arrives, you hear that glorious, head-turning sizzle. The aroma of perfectly seasoned steak and chicken, caramelized onions, and crisp bell peppers fills the air. The meat was unbelievably tender and flavorful, the vegetables had the perfect crisp-tender texture, and the homemade tortillas were warm, soft, and the perfect vessel for scooping up every last delicious bite. It's not just a dish; it's a full sensory experience. Beyond the phenomenal fajitas, the freshly made guacamole was creamy and zesty, and the salsa had a complex, smoky kick that I couldn't get enough of. You can taste the freshness and the passion in every single item on the menu. What truly elevates Don Chico from a great restaurant to an unforgettable one is the owner, Angel. He is the heart and soul of this establishment. He doesn't just run the restaurant; he brings it to life. Angel personally came to our table to greet us, his smile as warm and genuine as the food he serves. He shared stories about his family recipes and his passion for bringing authentic flavors to the community. His presence is felt everywhere, ensuring every guest feels welcomed, happy, and well-fed. You can tell this isn't just a business for him—it's a labor of love. If you are looking for authentic, mouth-watering Mexican food served with a side of genuine hospitality, you absolutely must visit Don Chico. I will be dreaming about those fajitas until I can go back, which will be very, very soon. This place...
Read moreSo.... My wife and I arrived about 8:15-ish. We were seated without menus, brought chips and salsa and brought drinks. One of the older servers saw we were without menus and brought us some. Our waiter took our order andni ordered fajitas. My wife ordered Quesadilla Relleno. We also ordered some cheese dip. The manager came around and checked on us at which time I let him know we were waiting on some cheese dip. Our food started coming while he was standing there. He brought us the cheese dip...and we had it with our meal.
Food... The food was okay...as in just okay. The fajitas tasted bland...like the skillet was missing the spices. The meat was over cooked and a little tough. The cheese dip was like water. My wife said her Quesadilla Relleno was good. I was really disappointed...they have a sign saying they were voted best mexican restaurant." If they are the best, then i would hate to see the others...
Read moreOn our trip through Alabama, we were passing through Fort Payne and needed somewhere to get dinner. We arrived at Don Chico starving hungry. We ordered the 7 lenguas hot plate, and boy we did NOT regret it! After eating enough complimentary tortillas and salsa to feed a small village, we were served a huge sizzling plate with steak strips, chicken, pork chops, ribs, prawns, peppers and onions. This came with sides of Mexican rice, beans, guacamole, salad and tortillas. Few times in my life have I seen better value for money. All this for 27 dollars. We are two pretty big guys who like to eat, and we didn’t come too close to finishing. On top of that the quality was top class. The food was awesome and the staff were very friendly. Thank you guys. If you are ever making a trip through Fort Payne, you won’t regret a pit stop in...
