I been traveling to Fort Wayne quite a bit recently, staying in town for a week at a time. During these visits, I’ve had the pleasure of navigating the cities under appreciated food scene. From cheap eats to the most elegant experiences, Fort Wayne seems to have it all.
One place in particular has become not only my favorite in Fort Wayne, but tops the list completely…BISTRO NOTA!! This unassuming little bistro packs quite the culinary punch, smacking me in the face over and over again with a wide variety of tastes and senses for the palate.
Until today, my favorite dish had been their Oven Roasted Chicken Breast, a delicious, juicy breast of chicken served with fingerling potatoes, and sautéed spinach, onions, and cherrywood bacon, all resting on a rich flavorful pan sauce. I live two hours (plus) away and have driven up just for this dish. That was until today…
I am a fan of pasta, a REALLY BIG FAN. Today, wanting something different, I took the opportunity to try their Pasta Bolognese and my lord was I blown away. Waves of pappardelle nestled on my plate accompanied by the most delicious sauce with local ground beef, pork, pork belly, and tomatoes, all topped with a healthy dollop of ricotta cheese. The rich texture of the sauce and the creaminess of the ricotta cheese blended perfectly into the most delicious experience. What an absolute gem!!
The service is casual and fun, with the severs proving a warm comfortable experience for their patrons. I’ve been lucky enough to have Hailey as my server multiple times and have enjoyed each interaction with sheer delight.
If your in Fort Wayne, of just want an amazing culinary experience, you owe it to yourself to come to Bistro Nota. You will not be...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Bistro Nota a couple of weeks ago on a cold rainy Friday night. We went because one of the owners/chefs is Jake - formerly of Chop’s Wine Bar (when it was at it’s best).
As is Jake’s forte, the the food was fabulous! We tried several different things. We ordered a bottle of the “house” red wine from their varied wine list. It was a great wine, far superior to what I expected from anyone’s house wine! The Pain et Fromage was delicious-Homemade Sliced Rosemary & Sea Salt Focaccia served with Roasted Pepper Cheese Dip.
For dinner we tried their delicious Bistro Mac & Cheese - for an “a la carte” item it was a large portion. We ordered Low country Shrimp (GF) from the “small plates” portion of the menu - my husband doesn’t eat pork so they graciously omitted the bacon. We ordered Beef Teres Major entree -Petite Shoulder Tenderloin, Roasted Garlic Marinated, Potato Veloute, Sofrito with Grilled Focaccia.
The staff is engaging, congenial & professional. The atmosphere is comfortable, urban, slightly Industrial. We will go back to Bistro Nota again...
Read moreI had a gift card to use with BN and tonight was the night. Exhausted mom of 4 littles, husband is working OT this month…this was my treat. I was curious how the food would be with carry-out (and service) vs dine-in. I ordered 3 items, the beef teres major, the chocolate cremeux, and the nota tea. The meal was ready right when my pickup time was listed, and the hostess gave me everything in two bags. I walked quickly to my car and decided to take a bite of the entree before driving home.
Guess what?! I didn’t make it home before devouring everything!!! Oh my gosh it was SO GOOD. I’m especially picky about meat, and the beef teres was not chewy, overdone (I ordered medium-rare), or dry. I was very impressed. Both sauces that went with the meal were phenomenal. The dessert was divine. I loved the little shavings of chocolate in the fancy pudding (plus the fresh whipped cream). The tea was great-unsweetened and refreshing. I would 100% order this meal again. Skip Applebees, you can get a phenomenal meal...
