After hearing all the praise for Ophelias I was kinda shocked with my experience. While the unique decor makes it a pleasant place to sit, I find I didn't enjoy much more than that while we visited. Let me start off with the good, our cocktail was great, our waitress was wonderful and their house tots were great. Now onto what makes this a 3(or less) star experience. When we got our appetizer of house tots I was surprised to see just how small the portion was. As an appetizer at the price point I expected a little more, but like I said they were tasty. And onto the lunch, first thing I'd say is probably just stay away from the lunch menu, all the praise I've seen has been for the breakfast and that's probably why. I ordered The corridor burger and my SO ordered the BLT, presentation was on point but after my first bite I was cautiously optimistic, SALT was 80% of the flavor, wanting a burger I spent $19 on to be good I gave it another shot and continued eating the burger with no luck, just really lacking flavor and I couldn't get over how salty it was, and I'm not even a picky eater. The bacon on the burger was also not the best, while taste wise yes it was bacon, it was pretty over done but not crispy and just kinda chewy, I'd rather spend my money at Five Guys if that's the usual experience. Onto the BLT it's exactly what it says it is, and not much else, the sourdough quality was not the best and the bacon had a similarly disappointing chewy hardness for the price point the sandwich just didn't make much sense, the best part of the sandwich was the tomatoes and that's about it. Our 'Untitled' cocktail was great and I'm assuming their coffee is good from reviews I've read. For spending $60 on a meal I didn't feel like I got a $60 experience. Maybe an off day for the kitchen? However I don't think this explains a $9 appetizer being 4 tots (the size of a meatball) even if they taste great. Honestly price wouldn't be an issue if it had felt well spent. I'm sure we'll be back eventually and give their breakfast and coffee a shot, but we won't be going near their...
Read moreMe and my friend stopped in for breakfast. We got lucky that the two of us could be seated outside without a reservation. You usually always need a reservation. The hostess was not warm and friendly. She was cold and not welcoming. She acted like she didn’t enjoy her work. We then got seated outside and the hostess gave us two empty water cups. We thought this was strange. The waitress came and said the hostess should have given us water. We put our food and coffee in together because normally Ophelia’s takes awhile to get food out (20-30mins). They also never bring out the food at the same time of your party is larger than two to three people. The hostess came back and filled up our waters. We said thank you and her reply was “mmmhmm”. Not professional and made us feel awkward. It gave entitled high school girl working at a nice restaurant. Our breakfast came out rarely quickly because we both got “The standard”. My blueberry French toast was good but I could only eat around the edges. The edges were hard as bricks. So it’s like paying $8 for not full French toast. The eggs had no flavor but were okay. The potatoes were the best part of the meal. Our brown sugar cinnamon shaken espressos were amazing though! Our waitress was not warm either. She seemed in a rush. I also asked for water three times. On the third time she said “I’ll try to fill your water”. If she is struggling that badly her section needs to not be as big or she needs to ask for help. I have served and bartended before so I get it but step up and ask for help. The barista is always behind when we come to. I was shocked we got our lattes before the meal. She told the table next to us though that there was a huge queue for drinks so it would take awhile to get drinks out. I am not sure if Ophelia’s is always understaffed but that’s what it is giving. It’s sad that my friends and I joke that if we pick Ophelia’s for brunch we will eat at...
Read moreMade a reservation for my girlfriend and I here as a surprise. The whole place and it's vibe is very charming and very cute.
Our waitress was super friendly and attentive and we were sat immediately. She frequently checked up on us.
My girlfriend had a chicken dish and a cocktail and I had a steak, a cocktail and a beer.
The food was delicious, her chicken smelled so good from across the table and she was very satisfied. The steak was not cooked medium as I ordered it, it was more of a medium well. I feel like when you charge 40-45 for a steak it should be exactly as ordered, But nonetheless it was delicious and tender.
I saw a review stating that if you want to overpay for small portions this is the place for you. I did not feel that way at all. Our plates were full and they tasted very good.
They said they make their salad dressing from scratch and that's a shame because I would buy that to use at home, definitely a winner.
Where it gets a little iffy for me is in the drinks. Selling an old fashioned made with a super cheap bourbon (Evan Williams) for 13$ is wild to me. But I will also give them kudos because they made that cheap bourbon taste pretty darn good.
Her martini was sweet and delicious and she had zero complaints.
After the old fashioned I ordered one of the local dark beers. It was also really good however it was much closer to room temp than it was cold, which is another minor gripe.
Overall it was a pretty good experience. I don't see the value in it with some of the prices and I am not chomping at the bit to go back but I certainly wouldn't rule out going back either.
This place is definitely worth checking out and we had...
