last night, i came with my family and my friends were on the way. my friends cousin who is visiting from Ecuador was not allowed in because he had a passport. i went outside to understand the situation and there was no clear explanation. the situation started to get worse because the police got involved and this police officer decided to start coming at my face saying “you can get banned or leave” when i was simply asking or an explanation on why my aunt who got in with a different id (not from the us) was able to get in but this cousin (not from the us with a passport) was not able to come in. the police officer kept cutting me off and continue coming at me like i was a threat to her. the manager (i think) was there and the only thing she said was yea you can leave or get banned. I AM NEVER going there again since they want to use escalate things for no reason. i left crying out of frustration of NOT HAVING A SIMPLE ANSWER & being threatened of being banned if i didnt just leave. we did nothing wrong! we just needed to know why! pictured is the police woman who was escalating things and using her “authority” to scare me and my friends. this is not okay. The Deck should’ve stuck up for their customers instead of just “yup you can get banned or leave”.

First time visiting here and we really enjoyed it. Great place to have lunch outside. My wife had the Philly cheese steak sandwich along with a side of pit beans. She really liked both and especially the bread used for the sandwich. I had the fried chicken sandwich and I'll say it is the best one I've ever had and that's compared to the mainstream fastfood ones everyone's most likely had. Great seasoning and just really good! Comes with lettuce, tomato, and mayonnaise on the side. I went with tots for my side because, I love tots. Lol. We will definitely come back again. Back again today September 27th. Got here shortly after 11:00. I had the Chicago burger and added bacon, pepper jack cheese, and lettuce. I enjoyed it very much. The wife's food came out about 15 minutes after mine so we weren't sure what the hiccup was with that. She said her bread stick that came with her salad was cold. Not sure if they were understaffed today or not but even after we were seated, it was probably ten minutes before we had a server. Not a deal breaker for me but just thought it was odd. Still coming back because we enjoy it here.

Owned by the Halls family of restaurants, the food is reliable good. Smaller, mostly sandwich menu at this entirely outside eaterie, there are a couple entrees from Don Halls Gashouse (Indoor restaurant that shares a large parking lot), such as steak available as well. But we go for the atmosphere, great outdoor seating with covered areas or umbrellas, right along the active area of the downtown River, festive lighting and as lot of greenery makes this one of our most favorite summer time destinations. Closed during the cold seasons. But if your coming to downtown during warm weather, I highly recommend you check it out.

The worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Absolutely horrible.

The wait was normal for the middle of the week, 20-30 minutes for a party of 6 with two small kids. We ordered drinks and appetizers and they came out quickly. Our waitress was polite and took our orders well. We were being treated great! We had one more person coming so we ordered their food so it would be there when they came. They took the order no problem. When our guest came the Hostess very rudely said we could not have him sit at our table, basically telling him to leave. She gave us no opportunity to figure out a solution and accommodate him. She provided no alternatives. She just told us no, turned around and left. He left upset that he had driven all the way to eat only to be turned away. As he left they brought our dinner. By that time we were already upset about it and our appetites were almost gone.

Another server came out with the food we ordered for our final guest and asked who's sandwich it was. We told him we didn't need it because they told him to leave. We also told them we didn't want other food since we were upset. Finally the manager comes out, us thinking, to make it right. She hands out a bill, tells us to pay and leave. No apologies, no fixing, just pay your bill and leave. Poor experience handled in the worst way possible. The whole time our waitress looked uncomfortable and genuinely upset at the way we were treated.

What a horrible way to treat paying customers. Turning down one patron, then coming out and telling us to leave because we felt we were treated wrong? Horrible horrible horrible horrible. I have never seen a manager come out and handle a situation so poorly. Horrible experience that will share with anyone I hear even considering going...

Here's my 5-star review from 7 years ago: This is the best place to eat, to drink, to hang out with friends on a nice day, in all of Fort Wayne. Super-casual with either finger food or appetizers or a full meal. Sit at the bar or at tables and dine. Really the perfect place to meet with a bud or a group. And here's my review from today: This spell of weather, including today, has been a boon to an outside venue like this. It was a perfect day to dine here. I got the meatless antipasto - which I had here about a month ago - and today had 2 observations: first, and this is coming from someone who often asks for MORE dressing - it was swimming in it. A bit too much. Secondly, one of the reasons I order this dish is that I love artichokes and it lists them in the description, and it came without them, which was a disappointment. Also my breadstick seemed hard but my dining companion suggested it might be fried but fried a) doesn't seem right for what's supposed to be a soft breadstick and b) wasn't in the description. Finally, I am sure what came as whipped butter wasn't butter and was kind of like flavorless oil. If this review seems like I hate the place, I don't. I'm a fan and just hope it's better next time. One more note: my fellow diner ordered the cod po boy and both of us thought it was bland. The waitress was friendly and answered questions well but was very very busy. If someone asked I'd...

Two of us visited the The Deck for the first time around 3 p.m. on a Monday. The view and pleasant outdoor atmosphere is great! The service was slow for someone to arrive at our table. When she arrived she was just present with really no personality. A friendlier server then took over because the first one left for the day. My portobello sandwich was good but my husband’s Poor Boy sandwich was underwhelming. Upon leaving the girl at the hostess station said nothing as she was visiting with 2 other employees. A “hope to see you again” with a smile might have been nice. One of the employees said “I hope we don’t get any busier” to the hostess as we were leaving. I felt like we were bothering her. There were literally 4 people in the bar and 4 in the dining room including ourselves. When the young “hostess” sat us she said nothing and put the menus down on the table. We asked to move to the river side. There were only 2 other people there but she never asked if we had a preference. We would go back for the view and outdoor ambiance but would order something different to eat. The customer service, however, and welcoming attitude needs to step it up a notch. I am giving a 4 star rather than 3 because of the outdoor setting. I was generous also with a 4 for the food but willing to try it again and order...
