A lesson on ice cream. Frozen custard is ice cream with eggs. No other difference. Some ice creams at the grocery store contain eggs and are technically frozen custard but are called just ice cream. I personally prefer this type of ice cream because the egg adds a rich flavor and a uniquely smooth texture. Commercially made ice cream is made in a large, stainless steel device called a batch freezer. It comes out soft, just like homemade churned ice cream. It goes into a container and frozen so that it can be scooped. It is not meant to be served directly from the batch freezer. There is another frozen dessert called “soft serve ice cream.” It is meant to be served soft, directly from the machine. Curly’s doesn’t make soft serve. They make ice cream with eggs, aka frozen custard. And, I think they do it well. To taste how good it is, just order a plain, vanilla scoop. This is the “base” from which all the other flavors are made. That’s what I...
Read more3 stars for the peach custard, 1 star for the service. We came specifically for the parker county peach which was always top notch in the past. This time more artificial peach flavor and only a very small amount of peaches, I counted 3 tiny bits in my double, my wife none in hers. But the lowlight was definitely the crew. We ordered and paid and then sat down to wait for our very simple 2 concretes. We watched as the crew had a great time and several other orders came out including some who ordered after us. Finally went back to the window and waited until one of the crew of 5 wasn't too busy playing around that she opened the window and offered to help. She didn't seem at all surprised that someone's order was forgotten and said they would get on it. A few minutes later, the order appears ready I head back to the window to be greeted not by some sort of apology, but instead by a snear and nothing else. Perhaps because my order had...
Read moreThe peach topping on the peach custard wasn’t my cup of tea. When I think peach and custard, I envision fresh peaches, not slivers of slimy peach (skin and all) in some mystery syrup atop custard. If I order again, I will request without the topping. Their custard has a heartier taste than Andy’s Frozen Custard. It’s a bit more dense in flavor. I don’t mind it, but the price doesn’t justify the quantity of product that you receive. I’ve previously taken team members to Curly’s and no one screamed in glee. It’s just very middle of the road. As far as the hotdogs, I’ve ordered them twice over the course of two years and both instances, I was served room temperature hotdogs on hard buns. Regarding customer service, I’d venture to say that it’s nonexistent. Don’t expect to be greeted or acknowledged quickly when going through the drive thru. Window service is slightly better in...
