Husband is paying $1700/night to stay at the Bowie House for the next few days and we walked in for dinner after checking in, about an hour before closing. I asked the young hostess for a booth because we plan on ordering a lot of food, likely the best/most expensive items on the menu, and we like our privacy; also considering it was an hour before closing, the restaurant wasn’t jam packed with patrons so it seemed like a not so taboo request.
She looked annnoyed and told me all that’s available is a table. I reminded her we’d greatly appreciate a booth especially since it’s so empty. Of all the booths she took us to, she took us to an empty corner booth with an even smaller table than the first table she offered us, seated next to a weird guy sitting by himself taking pictures of everything he’s eating. Would you want to pay $250+ for a romantic dinner squished in next to that? Maybe because I wasn’t dressed like a high paying customer and still in my road trip outfit, she just assumed I walked in off the streets looking for a cheap meal. So I looked around the corner and found an empty booth with a large table and told her we’d like to sit there. She complained that there aren’t table settings and she’d have to go get some, as if that’s the sole reason we can’t be seated there.
Our waitress started out efficiently with getting our drink orders and giving food recommendations; but her attitude quickly declined once drink orders started backing up and having us wait 10+ minutes each time for refills. Remember, at this point it’s about 30 minutes before closing, there were only 3-4 other tables of customers with tons of wait staff and bar staff. We were assured several times that the kitchen is open until 10 and that they’re in no hurry to get us out. I see the other tables being tended to constantly, but for some reason our waitress is nowhere to be found. I asked her why we’re waiting over 10 minutes for drinks at a 5 star hotel, and got hit with a list of excuses. As the night went on, she thought it would be cute to start taking our straws one by one from our cups as well so we’d have to drink from the glass or go out of our way to bother her for more straws. It’s only 2 of us, and we’re not asking for much. But we’re paying 5 star prices for 2-3 star service at best.
From the beginning of our dinner experience once we were seated, the waitress for some reason never acknowledged my husband nor asked him if there’s anything he wants or needs; only dealt with me, as if he’s a nightmare to talk to. I don’t appreciate my husband being insulted when he’s done nothing wrong and hasn’t done anything to be treated the way he was, as if he’s personally wronged her in some way.
The filet mignon came out tough and dry, was more like an overcooked sirloin and was pretty hard to cut. Don’t bother getting the Oscar style upgrade, isn’t worth the extra money for cut up asparagus and room temp crab meat with tart hollandaise sauce. The lobster and scallops were okay. The Caesar salad served here is probably the weirdest and most un-Caesarlike Caesar I’ve ever had. No romaine lettuce, just wilted leafy greens. And the Caesar dressing only tasted like sesame oil, no hint of Caesar anywhere.
There were two young men working in the kitchen who brought out all of our food, and their manners and performance far exceeded our one waitress’s. Perhaps they should switch job roles with the waitress.
We were curious about the bone-in ribeye, but after the subpar filet mignon and even worse dining experience, we’ll have our dinners elsewhere. I’m reluctant to even return for breakfast to utilize our daily...
Read moreMy wife and I chose Bricks and Horses for our anniversary dinner this year. We had never dined here before but have heard great things. Arrival was good, the valet staff was courteous. Hostess greeted us and we were promptly seated. Our server, who was absolutely the best all evening, greeted us by last name and congratulated us on our anniversary. I have never booked an anniversary dinner where it was so kindly acknowledged right from the start.
We chose to split the Caesar salad - which we were told would be large enough to do so. It was so good that we could have easily had a whole order each. My wife ordered the lobster piccata for her main. It looked terrific - and she commented this was the best lobster she had ever had. For my main, I had the 10 oz strip steak with the loaded potatoes gratin. The steak was perfectly cooked - and the bone marrow butter took it to another level. The potatoes were also great - could eat those all day.
For dessert, we both had hot tea - with my wife having the pear and almond tart and I had the gooey butter cake pie. Just like the rest of the meal, this was also fantastic. In addition, for our anniversary, they also provided a small piece of a standard white birthday cake with a piece of chocolate on top stating "Happy Anniversary" - this was the only things slightly odd.
Our meal and experience was so great that I hate to make any negative points, so I will consider this a suggestion to them. In lieu of the "grocery store" piece of birthday cake (which looked and tasted as such - icing very sweet), provide the guest complimentary tea / coffee with their dessert. It would have been nice to know that was coming before, as we would have just passed on it - as we really did not need three desserts. And the look/taste of the "birthday cake" was so not consistent with the rest of the food and atmosphere experience.
Overall, we will definitely be back on a regular basis. We also want to come by sometime just for happy hour at the bar and for a meal on the outdoor patio (which we did walk out and look over before we left -...
Read moreJust here to edit this review to note to find out that they double charged my credit card for the meal as well! 😡 Went here with high hopes. Expected a much better experience than we had. Food was great! We had the wild boar chop and the filet. The steak was steak, but the house made Worcestershire sauce was amazing! Wild boar was delicious as well. Sides were mediocre at best. We chose the mashed potatoes and cauliflower dish. Best part of the meal was the sourdough bread! It was perfection! The service was VERY slow. Drinks took FOREVER to come out, but were good when they did arrive. We waited forever for our food as well. The second round of drinks we ordered took about as long as the first round. Barely saw our waiter, I think the manager did more to help than our actual waiter. We asked for a menu to look at dessert options after being asked if we wanted dessert and we were never brought the menu to order. 30 more minutes later we had to ask a different server for our check. Never saw our waiter again. Seem like there were a lot of employees wandering around, but no one seemed to be actively helping anyone. I will admit that our water always seem to be refilled after taking just a few sips. That was nice. There is NO PARKING other than valet.... I mean NONE. I expected more from a high end restaurant. There were a lot of people that were enjoying the lobby area which looked very comfortable and inviting. The decor is over the top Fort Worth Western if your into that style. Overall, if I had to choose a dining experience for the same type food I would go to Bonnells or B&B where the service is spectacular and the sides deserve their own fanfare. I will admit they just opened 4 days ago so I will assume all of this is "opening" issues which I am hoping it will...
