Really, really cool to be able to take my daughter (she's 3) and two sons (they're 2 and 11) here and show her/them all the brave cowgirls! Lots of really fantastic artifacts, clothing, sterling and turquoise jewelry and possibly the most beautiful custom saddle I've ever seen! Nice mix of historical highlights explained and delivered in a way (holograms of Annie Oakley acting out significant historical events, throughout the exhibits) that even my PICKY "know it all" 11 year old was impressed! And that's saying something... The curator of this museum obviously has put in a great deal of time and effort into making sure that what could be seen as a very dry and lackluster page in our history books isn't!! In fact, it's quite the opposite! Make sure to stop on your way out and take your spooky, old timey black and white picture of you and your family alongside a shotgun toting, Annie Oakley as she poses for a picture with you before fading off into the dusty wild wild west... Oh and it's entirely FREE, or at least it was...
Read moreVisited on International Women's Day, thought it would be a great day and honor. Almost didn't get a chance to visit the museum because of a cleaning product used was strong smelling. The worker at the front was asking my daughters and I to return the next day. Although a lady and her mother coming out expressed how they enjoyed the museum. So then I'm standing there with my children wondering why were they allowed in at their own risk but we are not about to be allowed in. Then to be asked to pay for parking again the next day. I explained to the associate we made a special trip out to the museum on our Spring Break. We are not out on break the following week in Plano/Allen and had plans for the next day. Luckily, another associate over heard the conversation taking place and allowed us to come in. Overall, we enjoyed the museum. My children enjoyed riding the bucking horse upstairs. The experience would've earned 4-5 stars but due to the conflict of getting in 3...
Read moreVisited on my own while I was here for my daughter's gymnastics meet. Was greeted by a lovely woman who shared with me the highlights of what the museum had to offer. Thoroughly enjoyed the rich history that the museum had on display! I especially loved the section around Annie Oakley and also really enjoyed seeing the different costumes throughout the different periods. There were also a couple of interactive photo sections where you can put yourself in the photo and text it or email it to yourself. That was a great memento! Once I finished my tour I spent some time in the small but packed to the brim gift shop... seriously look in every nook and cranny because there are so many amazing finds here! As an added bonus, because I spent more than $20 in the gift shop, my parking was free! Overall a great experience and I really enjoyed it. Would highly recommend spending a couple of hours going through this very...
