I finally found a really good Mexican restaurant. The music transports me to Miami and I thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere. From the ambience, to service, to food, to cleanliness, I find Mesero to be an excellent dinner choice.
My partner and I have visited twice- first in September and then again in February. Dylan served us both times and when we said that he was our server last time, he remembered where we sat and what we had ordered. He smiles, gives good food recommendations, and returns to the table to refill waters and make sure that everything is going well. The best part is that he makes us feel comfortable and that there is no rush to move onto entrees or get the check.
Saturday night was packed and when we called they said 40 minutes or less for 2 at about 8:20 pm. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 8:30 pm and we sat down at 8:40 pm. This did not bother me because it was such a short wait time in comparison to other places at the same time.
As soon as we sat down, a trio of salsas and chips were delivered to our table. My favorite is the orange salsa. I have no idea what's in it, but it is the tastiest of the bunch. The green salsa is my second choice, and I didn't care for the red salsa. It tasted just like a pureed tomato with no seasoning or heat. We ate through these pretty quickly, and a staff member noticed and refilled our chips and favorite salsas without us saying anything! Very attentive service.
We ordered the ceviche as an appetizer since Dylan said it was the pride and joy of Mesero. Boy, did it deliver! Both in presentation and taste, it was delicious. I asked for extra limes to squeeze on top because I like a lot of citrus on any seafood. Although the ceviche is pricey, I recommend ordering it to share.
After all our chips, salsa, and ceviche, we started to get full and made a decision to share an entrée. We ordered the braised pork last visit and knew how large and tasty it was, so we ordered it again. Guys, it was so much food that I couldn't even finish my half order after the ceviche and chips. The mushrooms, onions, red sauce, and pork in one bite is SO TASTY. Make sure to fully cover your bite in the red sauce. Yum, yum yum! The red rice was soft, fluffy, and well flavored- mild, but in the best way so it doesn't overpower the star of the dish, the red sauce. This dish also came with tortillas, but I preferred to eat it without. I've also had the chile colorado here, but it doesn't stand a chance next to the braised pork.
To end the meal, we decided to try the choco flan since we had the cinco leches last time. Need to make a quick dessert decision? Choose the cinco leches ALWAYS. It is perfect. A huge portion, gloriously flavored, moist, and addicting. Absolutely worth the $8. The choco flan, however, needs work. I actually considered giving Mesero 4 stars after eating it, which I decided against because of every other positive thing I've mentioned. The flan is subpar- the flavor is completely lacking and they do not do the traditional caramel syrup, which makes it look oddly white. The chocolate cake part is fine. It's an average chocolate cake sponge. It was at least, a moist cake. Herein lies the problem, when you take a bite with the flan and the chocolate cake, all you can taste is the chocolate cake. Then you have them separately and they are not strong enough to stand on their own. It would be better to have a really good flan and a really good chocolate cake on the dessert menu rather than them together as a subpar choco flan.
Overall, our dinners at Mesero have been fantastic. I highly recommend Dylan to be your server, order the ceviche, the braised pork, and the cinco leches. The music is lively and if you are so inclined, will have you dancing in your seat. The bathrooms are clean and even have bath & body works aromatherapy lotion for you to use. Lastly, during football season, they are a Go Purple Fridays member and offer a...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst experience I’ve ever heard! The service was absolutely terrible! We got a new girl, Olivia, as our waitress and usually I would be very polite but she never told us to start with. Took about drink order after 10 mins of waiting, and they were busy but not that busy. Then waited another 20 mins to take our dinner menu and we still didn’t have drinks. We asked multiple times for chips and salsa, which we got finally after 30 mins. We finally get our food and we don’t have the sides or salsas that come with the plates. She never checked on us so I had to wave her down. Olivia states the kitchen is just busy and she’ll get it when it’s ready. Still after we finished eating we never got our sides and she avoided us. We were waiting for 30 mins with empty drinks and plates. Finally I saw what looked like the manager to get our ticket. I asked if Olivia was new and he said yes first day. Typically that would be fine but wouldn’t you think the manager would be checking on her and the tables throughout the night?!? While I’m expressing my concerns, the manager (don’t have his name at this time) reaches over to remove some plates while looking at me and not paying attention to the plates, one of the green salsas slides off the plates and covers my friends white dress and my other friends purse. No apology or anything. States that we shouldn’t have stacked the plates like that. Her white dress is now ruined and it’s her birthday and we were going out after dinner. We had to go buy her a new dress due to it being stained. The manager still doesn’t care to hear the rest of my concerns and says I’ll give yall all a discount. Brings the bill and it’s $1.49 discount on a $30+ bill. Seriously?!?! I confronted him again asking if that’s a joke. He was proud of it and said no. Between birthday girl and me getting onto him about their service and how this was absolutely the rest experience and expressing it was her birthday multiple times, he finally offers to pay for her dinner but doesn’t comp anyone else’s bill more than the $1.49. Needless to say, we paid our bill and will never be going back. I felt terrible but was left no choice to leave a $0 tip due to how management treated us. Get better service...
Read moreI went to Mesero on March 30th with a group of friends who came in town. I live at the apartment complex nearby and have dined there before, not during dinner, and the service was fine. I assume this was because there were not a lot of people dining at that particular time. However, my latest experience on a Friday night was a complete disaster. I made a reservation 1 week in advance for 7:30 pm. One would assume that making a reservation would mean that you did not need to wait an hour to get seated. Wrong. Once we were finally seated around 8:30 - 8:45, we were crammed into a 4 top when there were 5 of us. Again, when you make a reservation for a set amount of people you would assume that they would seat you in a table that is an appropriate size for your party. Aside from being crammed all of dinner, here are some other complaints that compelled me to write this review: we never received waters during the whole dinner. My boyfriends food didn't come out on time ...when it came out 20 minutes late it was the WRONG dish but he didn't send it back because we all had finished our entire meal by then. Halfway through our meal in our crummy 4 top, the wait staff moved the table next to us to the other side of the restaurant, meaning we were seated next to a giant empty space which was so awkward. When I politely asked to speak to the manager about our whole experience, the man said "Well I am the owner" and, after listening to my issues, he acted extremely annoyed to be hearing negative feedback and having to deal with a customer. He did offer us a free drink but the attitude was shocking; what happened to "the customer is always right?"
Basically, very poor service. Completely disorganized. Lots of kinks to work out ( I understand they are new but they should be more prepared than they are at this point). Food is good but pricey - not worth it until service is better. I will not be returning any time soon which is unfortunate because FW needs more...
