Read moreCame here for the first time for Mother’s Day and had a fabulous experience. From making reservations to the day of service, everyone was just great.
They don’t have online reservations, so I had to call. I called a month in advance to make sure I could get the time I wanted in such a busy day. The hostess was friendly and helpful. They even called to confirm a few days prior.
Our table was just precious. Everything about the restaurant is just precious. I love the way they set everything up. I loved the napkins especially—so much so I bought two!
Now the food: amazing.
Bread: my girls got a kick out of how it’s served—on a board with a lever knife that doesn’t detach. They loved cutting the bread and eating it. It was so good and came with whipped butter I assume was house made.
Marshmallow soup: we shared this between the adults as we knew we had a lot of food coming. It was so good. The way they soufflé the goat cheese makes it so light and fluffy. The soup was excellent.
Crab soufflé: on special and what my MIL ordered. It had to have been 99% crab. I’d wear the only non crab part was the outside. It was delicious but rich.
Herb sausage soufflé: super rich but so yummy. My husband loved it. I just got a bite because I was saving room for dessert.
Escargot soufflé: my first time eating escargot and it was surprisingly quite good. I’m glad I got it as it was much lighter than any other soufflé we ordered. If I didn’t know better, I’d have thought it was a mushroom soufflé. The sauce was a bit salty but so good. It really was delicious and worth trying for those more adventurous.
Ham sandwich: my girls split this. They don’t have a kid’s menu. But they were fine with this. The ham looked fresh—like it was probably sliced for the sandwich. And it came on the bread they loved with a yummy salad and chips.
Dessert soufflés: chocolate, raspberry, grand mariner. Grand mariner was the table favorite. Even among my kids. Raspberry was a close second. With chocolate being our tables least fave. Don’t get me wrong; it was delicious. It’s just super rich and a lot after an already rich meal. I liked it better when eaten with the fruity soufflés but probably wouldn’t...
Read moreMy husband googled romantic restaurants and Rise popped up. We went on a chilly evening, so already it felt romantic. From the outside looking in, the intimate tables for two by the windows looked inviting.
The lit miniature Eiffel Tower just outside the restaurant brought back wonderful memories of Paris!
The impressive European entry doors gave way to a full view of the main dining area, open kitchen and a glimpse into the glassed-in, secluded side area. There was a large pile of red plastic bags with names on them. It wasn't explained to me, but I'm assuming they are donations to a worthy cause.
The stringed white lights on birch branches were a unusual sight until our server explained how so much of one of the owners' life is woven into the restaurant. She spent a good chunk of her childhood in France and the birch was what she saw there.
We were first seated in the main dining room near a sociable group of women. There wasn't enough sound-absorbing materials in the room to soften the sounds bouncing around. We asked for a table for two in the side room and were moved there. Immediately the atmosphere changed into that romantic ambiance we were looking for! We could also view the pretty lights outside as we dined.
Regarding touches of interest, the hefty antique French silver ware added so much more to the dining experience. The drinking glasses were re-cycled wine bottles, even the champagne glasses!
The large communal sink outside the restrooms is very French. Huge cloth hand towels were a charming sight.
The bread knife was one of the few not-so-good things. It didn't cleanly cut the crusty bread. Even though it's made in France, is self-sharpening and assembled by one of the owners' families in America, it was a bit aggravating having to make more than one attempt each time I wanted a slice of bread.
I took a break from a mostly plant-based diet that night and splurged! The marshmallow soup was so rich and full of flavor! My husband's salad was fine. My Duck à l'orange souffle was good. Hubby's steak could have been more pink inside, but it was still tender. The prices aren't cheap, but there is a price to pay for a lovely, relaxed experience...
