I like the atmosphere here, it’s a nice place with a lot of potential for a romantic dinner out. I have actually been coming here since 2007, but these days not so much.
Unfortunately I can’t say I like all the food too much anymore. The second to the last time I visited (over 3 years ago) I had the seafood pasta, it was a bit underwhelming. It was so underwhelming that I actually hadn’t been back since - until last night when most every other restaurant was closed due to inclement weather.
I wasn’t interested in the seafood pasta experience again, and I didn’t want anything too heavy to eat, so I ordered a margarita “brick oven” pizza.
I thought that was a little strange to see “brick oven pizza” on the menu since I have had Milano’s pizza in the past and it wasn’t “brick oven” pizza. But then again, it had been a few years since I have eaten there, so I thought maybe they had invested in a brick-oven since my last visit.
So I order the pizza, the pizza arrives, and I begin to eat. I was thinking “this doesn’t seem to look or taste like any brick oven pizza I’ve ever had.”
That’s because it wasn’t a brick-oven pizza. That was just a marketing ploy. It was just regular $20 substandard pizza.
The pizza wasn’t horrible or anything, but I’m more of a brick oven pizza guy myself - I only ordered it because Milanos advertises it on their menu as “brick oven.” And I really don’t like being mislead. Milano’s pizza is sort of a Joe’s Pizza style recipe, but in a nicer, more romantic setting. But the pizza is definitely overpriced at $20 compared to any other of the more expensive pizza restaurants in the area.
However I will say that the bread Milano’s bring to the table is very, very good, and I would imagine a lot of their other dishes are probably better. The bread could be an entrée in itself.
So this place is nicely decorated inside, it’s very charming, and has some unrealized potential. I really want to like this place more. An actual brick oven pizza, maybe some improvements on the food quality, and I might come in once a month instead of once every 3 years.
And that isn’t a “brick oven” guys. It’s a regular oven sitting inside a...
Read moreWe go here once a week usually. We used to get the rolls but we started doing the french bread and the olive oil and spices. That is the way to go. The salads are all excellent. Get the house dressing if you get a salad, its a russian style vinagrette that is really tasty. I suggest the antonios salad with house dressing. The wine selection is really limited but we always get the Sterling.
I have had many dishes here and I like them all. Baked Ziti is tasty but its kind of small. Cannelloni is excellent but I always want more. Manicotti is the same, good but small. I also have gotten the combination of all of them in their Tour of Italy style dish and that is awesome. The choose two or choose three with pasta is good. I usually do the meat sauce and sausage on ziti but they are all good. The fettucine alfredo is good with or without chicken. The sauce is thick and rich so be aware that this is kind of heavy. I have recently started to get the tortellini. It is a large portion of tortellini's and the sauce is good with bread. The sausage and pepper pasta dish is good with ziti. The lobster ravioli is tasty when they have it. The veal dishes are pretty good too. The pizza I have only had once and it was a lot to eat. I had to take half the pizza home which isn't a bad thing. The canoli is pretty good. I suggest that. The italian creme cake is sometimes still a little frozen in the middle of the slice so that's the only bad thing I have experienced.

They start by bringing you baked bread rolls with an olive oil and (lots of) garlic dipping plate. We also had the Garlic Cheese Bread ($3.50) to start and the salad that came with my entree had only iceberg lettuce, croutons, and dressing. Meh! I had a glass of the house cabernet ($5.99) which was obviously out of a box or big bottle, but not too bad.
My better half had the Fettucine Modo Mio ($10.99) with artichoke hearts, mushrooms and bacon in a cream sauce. Being Italian (born in Sicily, raised in Naples), she is a bit fussy when it comes to pasta, but she liked this dish although the fettucine was swimming in sauce, like in most U.S. Italian restaurants, rather than being lightly tossed and coated for just enough flavor.
I had the Veal Parmigiana ($16.99) which looked massive atop the spaghetti it came with, but it was mostly breading, much more than I thought possible. Even still, it was a fair size portion of veal and the sauce was actually quite good. Not the best I have had, but not a bad deal.
The service was very good. Our server was from Albania, very friendly and attentive, and the two young ladies helping out promptly removed plates when empty.
