I inherited an oil painting from my mother from a not so well-known but very accomplished and published artist. My father smoked 2 packs of cigarettes a day. I took the painting in to re-frame and to have it cleaned. Mr Dow talked me into restoring the original frame instead of replacing it. Turns out to be a frame of the highest quality and very much worth keeping, especially because it was original to the painting. They also cleaned the painting itself from they layers of nicotine and dirt that had made it as a thin layer on its face. The depth of color revealed is sublime, and the layered brushstrokes now stand out to give dimension to the weeds and grass. More blue has revealed itself within the taupes of the landscape and the white of the thunderclouds more sharply silhouette an angry sky. I will enjoy many hours as this painting keeps me company with the memories of my youth, and I will experience the dark excitement of a coming thunderstorm as if it were my first one every time I look at it. Told me that a painting that was signed with only the last name was not common and the painting was no good because of that. Well he's wrong it's quite common to sign one was only a last name. Never did really look at my painting. Said every negative thing he could about it. I am handicapped and crippled from my injuries. I live on a fixed income. Mr. Dow was able to painstakingly clean the photo to near-original quality.
