One of the most average sushi places I’ve ever been to. MJ Sushi is not stellar nor horrible, just plain average.

First, the negatives. The atmosphere is pretty lacking. It’s clean, and you can tell it’s a sushi place, but other than that, it has a basic modern restaurant look. In addition, the quality of the dishes were inconsistent. My sashimi was fresh, but my Mom said her tuna rolls were warm, as if they’ve been sitting out, and simply didn’t taste good. She couldn’t finish them and had to bring them home.

As for the positives, there is a lot of space. There were plenty of open tables, and I bet they could fit more if they wanted to. Therefore, there was no wait to be seated. The employees were also polite and quick with our orders. One gimmick I found interesting was the small cups of free ice cream they gave out to every table. Them being open on a late 4th of July evening was also a plus, since every other place we wanted to go to was closed at that time. That’s the only reason why tried this place out, honestly.

Overall, I wouldn’t want to come again, but I wouldn’t hate it if I...

Great addition to japanese restaurants in Foster City since 3 have closed. It is still on grand opening. We arrived around 5:30 pm. and got seated right away. It was not that crowded. The interior is cozy and nice. There are 3 servers at the time, and we we greeted right a way when we are ready to order. Since it is still a grand opening, the first drink is on the house. Anything from the ftidge except sake. There are many roll dishes on the menu. We order red dragon , sashimi special, and chicken karaage.

The sashimi special is presented nicely. I am not sure if they reuse the flower or not. It is kind of waste but make the presentation nice. It is generous cut and yummy except the hamachi. I just feel it is not melt in the mouth sesnsation.

The red dragon is nice. It is a shrimp tempura roll with chopped spicy tuna on top. It is filling.

Chicken karaage on the other side is not seasoned enough. It is pretty bland, but luckily, we carry chili sauce with us, and with chili sauce, it is good. Texture wise, it is cooked through.

This place is good for big groups since it has...

The food is excellent. I visited about a month and a half ago. We had a family of 4. We each ordered two to three rolls, and beer. We all loved the food and I cannot stop thinking of the Honey walnut roll. Super fresh. The only thing disappointing is that our waiter basically left us or went on break halfway through our meal. We were still wanting to order more. He didn’t tell us he was leaving. He didn’t pass us off to another waitperson. It was odd, confusing and kind of disappointing. We had to keep asking waitstaff as they walked by, for additional items, as well as the check. We basically had no additional wait service, unless we sought it out. If they wanted us to come to the counter and order- that would’ve been fine, and the staff could bus, but we were definitely seated and treated as if we would have service at the table at the beginning. We watched other staff wait tables for the entire meal of other patrons. Not sure what was going out with our waiter (shorter guy). Anyhow the food was great. I’ll probably try carry out next...
