We have such a love/hate relationship with Sofrita. It's one of the more unique offerings in a town with a dismal dining scene but I'd love to see a few new dishes added to the menu - I feel like we've been seeing the same offerings, even down to the bruschetta toppings for years. I do love their Beet Salad though they've gotten a little chintzy on the portion sizes. Take out portions sizes are super generous though and boxed and presented so nicely which is also hard to come across. Eating inside is undesirable - small and dark however their patio is super welcoming and a great place to enjoy a tasty drink and meal. The service though...they are always understaffed and service is always so...slow... You'd think on the weekend or during special events they would staff accordingly, but they never do. Even when it's not busy or they do have enough help the servers are inattentive and the whole dining experience takes SO much longer than it needs to. Our toddler is one of the most patient kids i know but we always need to make sure we pack extra stickers and coloring pages because the wait will be unnecessarily long, even for an adult. I do wish they had a kids menu or some more side portions as our kiddo loves their chicken salad and rice but once you order the chicken salad wraps and the side of rice you've spent $15 for a kid size portion of food. Overall, the food and ambiance are better than most anywhere else in town, I just wish dining there didn't have to be such an all...

I’m so disappointed. My husband and I only get to go to Sofrita’s when we’re in town a couple times a year. Been going since it opened and was a huge fan of their guacamole, breakfast burrito and chicken salad.

Sadly, this is the first time we were let down on all fronts. No more single serving portions of guacamole… $15 was the minimum order. Because my husband doesn’t eat it, the single serving was perfect for me.

They stopped serving eggs… so no breakfast burrito for him.

I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and what a disappointment that was. Instead of the usual chunky pieces of fresh chicken, I got hard pieces of old chicken that tasted like it had been sitting in the refrigerator for a week. The Mayo dressing was even broken down to nothing but oil.

I couldn’t eat it and sent it back. We left and ate elsewhere.

I felt bad for the server because none of it was his fault. But so disappointed as we looked so forward to this for weeks.

What happened to this place?? Two stars only because the Service was fine and the lemonades were delicious. But I hope they fix the food and...

We stopped in for lunch today. It was St. Patrick's Day weekend, and it was relatively busy around Fountain Hills. The restaurant was extremely under staffed. We arrived at 2:15, and didn't get our orders until 2:54. We tried to order guacamole, and they were out, so we didn't get any appetizers. Only ordered two margaritas (they were very light on the tequila) and water.

Once we did get our food, it was extremely plain. The presentation was nice, and portions were good, but there was very little flavor. Ordered fish tacos, shredded pork in salsa verde tacos, and Morrocan chicken tacos. The salsa verde tasted like it came from a jar of Herdez mild salsa verde... Nothing special. The Morrocan chicken was well served, but very dry. My mother in law asked for some salsa, and was informed they were out of red salsa. Fish tacos looked good, but again, very plain.

The waitress was sweet, and the busboy was courteous.

We will...

The food looked amazing and the place was packed outside, but the taste just was lackluster. The staff was really kind, but overall this place lacks the finesse and seasoning to live up to the name of the dishes. I am salt sensitive and this was still too little seasoning. The table shared guacamole and salsa with chips. The salsa had very little seasoning, only a little green onion with tomato it seemed. No onions, peppers, garlic, or salt it seemed. The chips were alright and the guacamole while decent, was also lacking seasoning also although the toasted pumpkin seeds were a plus. I had the firehouse fish tacos and shared the new world kale salad. The fish tacos had very little flavor. I could not taste the chipotle at all and the mango salsa was just mango and a piece or two of tomato. The salad was very basic, the dressing did not have distinct flavor, there was far too much dried fruit, and too little dressing.

You don't have to travel far from AZ to take a mini vacation to Puerto Rico. SOFRITA owner, Carolyn, has brought her home city of San Juan to Fountain Hills, and incorporated flavors of the Caribbean with Spanish tapas. We had the pleasure of meeting her today and trying some great items off of the menu. The tacos are good-sized and had generous portions of tender and flavorful chicken. They aren't your typical tiny street taco; although they do offer the smaller versions of these for happy hour, which is everyday from 3-6. Everything we had was fresh, colorful, and full of flavor. I'm looking forward to going back during the cooler months to enjoy their patio with a view of the town's landmark fountain. This is a great spot for date night and a solid choice pre/post FH event. Next time you're looking for something different with a change of scenery, consider giving them a try. Say hi to Carolyn- she's lovely!

We unexpectedly went here for our anniversary. (The other place was packed.) First, I must say this was a Latin American/Puerto Rican restaurant not Mexican. So many reviews said it was not great Mexican food... BECAUSE IT'S NOT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT. ☺️ It was different and I enjoyed it. Unique taste and different vibe. I tried the Ropa Vieja. The beef brisket roast was so tender it almost melted in my mouth. The potatoes, yellow rice, and corn tortillas that came with it were good. The carrots were a little aldente. The tomato onion sauce the roast was served in was a little bland but not bad. My husband had the firehouse tacos and they were great! The Grande guacamole was good and I don't even like guac. The waitress was excellent and very friendly and helpful! Temperature check before being seated was a little out of my comfort zone but covid precautions are everywhere.
