I recently had the pleasure of dining at Oka Sushi in Fountain Hills, and it’s safe to say this isn’t just a restaurant—it’s a revelation. In a town where fine dining is scarce, Oka Sushi feels as though Fountain Hills was built around it, like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

From the moment you walk in, you’re transported to an atmosphere of refined elegance, where every detail, from the decor to the impeccable service, is thoughtfully curated. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate, elevating the entire experience before you even take a bite.

And then there’s the food. While their sushi is undeniably the star of the show, their Chicken Fried Rice deserves a spotlight of its own. It’s perfectly seasoned, with tender pieces of chicken and a balance of flavors that make this simple dish unforgettable. It’s comfort food, elevated to an art form. Pair that with their refreshing salad, drizzled with a house-made dressing that’s both tangy and sweet, and you’ve got the perfect start to your meal.

Of course, the sushi itself is exceptional. The fish is impossibly fresh, prepared with precision and care. The Toro Nigiri was as velvety as the desert sky at dusk, while the Phoenix Roll offered a burst of flavor as bold and vibrant as an Arizona sunset. The true highlight, however, was the Chef’s Omakase. Each course felt like a story told through flavor, with the chef taking you on a journey of creativity and tradition.

Updated Review: Used to frequent this location when we lived in FH. However, this place now is lackluster at this point.. ingredients weren't fresh and the vibes were questionable. The manager who seemed to be running the shift infectiously brought the team down. From the moment we walked in, we almost walked out. Especially when that manager just stood at the front of house, no enthusiasm, just dreary. Looked right at us, chose not to greet us, and turned his back to return to the kitchen. Then proceeds to not round the tables and make sure the patrons were OK when the place was bustling. Just a sloppy individual who quite frankly, had weird vibes that seemed to bring the overall team down. His attitude alone made us question just turning our backs to walk out as quickly as he did to us. However, after driving from North Phoenix and knowing how good this place used to be, we gave it a shot. Nonetheless, two waiters did their best to serve a very busy dining room with no support from management.. food was subpar.. umm, yea, thanks but no thanks. We won't be back.

Despite the name, Oka Sushi has SO much more to offer than fantastic sushi alone. Their staff is wonderfully attentive, and as patient as can be with those who can't pronounce a single word correctly to save their lives. I'm absolutely addicted to pasta of all kinds. And I will be the first to admit I've never found a more satisfying bowl of ramen or udon in my life, in the state of Arizona. I honestly recommend even getting another order of their noodles to go. They take the time to make sure that the noodles remain separated from the broth and other ingredients, to ensure they remain perfectly cooked, and don't absorb to much moisture, which is KEY for a noodle addict. And don't get me started on how perfectly savory the broth and other fresh ingredients taste time after time. I've even gone as far as to get a ramen to go, just to freeze it for a later date when I'm stuck at home working through a tough week. It's always a treat every time we've gone, and I will always bring our visitors and guests there at least once when they stay here. The consistency of everything at Oka Sushi, from the food to the service is always on point.
