Do not over look this little restaurant because it has a big thing going on. My husband and I were hungry on a Friday night and we wanted tacos so we decided to give this place a try and man where we happy we did. They have a vegan option but truly a vegan option. The woman who cooks the food understands that to have a true vegan dish you can't cook it on the same grill that you would with meat. There is zero animal byproducts with her vegan dishes (not even what she cooks the rice in 🤗) so I just want to put that out there for anyone who's looking and wants to give this place a try. I have the vegan burrito and I felt great afterwards. Lots of flavor and a good portion. The guacamole is made fresh order and it is some of the best guacamole I've had around Fox Lake. Same goes for the salsa and I'm not a big salsa fan and I could not stop eating it. My husband had the El Pastor Taco, chicken taco and shrimp taco and he said the El pastor is some of the best he's ever had. The cook, or maybe she's the owner says that she preps every thing everyday. She is very serious about homemade cooking, you can't get any more authentic than this restaurant. The staff there is extremely friendly and I could definitely see myself coming back next time when I want Mexican food. It is a very tiny building with four tables, but the service is really great and we felt very taken care of by the staff. They also do catering so in case you have a big party, look no further. So yes, I do highly recommend visiting this restaurant. Whether it's to sit down or to take out, you won't be...
Read moreSo a couple weeks ago I my wife and I ended up going to this Mexican restaurant and to pick up in an employee. She's recommended this place and said that we should try it. So we did. However, I ended up taking my daughter instead of my wife. It's a 4th of July and we were home and we wanted something to do so we went to this restaurant and let me tell you it is very very very good. I had a torta that had carne asada cheese. A little bit of sour cream avocados instead of guacamole and beans and the way they made the tortas was so good and they don't put excessive amount on the ingredients. They portioned it very very well and I loved it. When I usually go to a Mexican restaurant and I order a torta, mine is usually a little bit of sloppy and not so tasteful. Only because you can taste the beans and then the guacamole with the sour cream barely any meat. But here at this restaurant I tasted more meat than I did with the ingredients and it was so neatly put together and it wasn't so sloppy. I don't know what kind of cheese they put on there but it was really good. Very good the way they made it. You should try it. Get yourself a torta and ordered it with cheese and carne asada. My daughter however had a burrito with chicken and veggies on it. It was also good. She said that she would go there again if we ever do get the chance to. The tortilla chips were hot and fresh as well and the salsa let me tell you I could eat that straight with no chips or nothing. That's how good it was. Please go over there and tell them I sent you Bella Stanley from kitchen's...
Read moreThis review is for La Cocina's catering service. I would not recommend having this restaurant cater your event if timing, quality, or customer service are important to you. We placed our wedding order in advance and called to confirm the day before, and the manager assured us that everything was ready. Unfortunately, the delivery took three trips and only had one worker to bring in the food for 100 people. This resulted in most of the order arriving at least an hour late. Furthermore, we were embarrassed by the quality of the food that we received; we suspect they started preparing it too late. We called the restaurant a couple days later to express our concerns and see about a partial refund, but the same manager insisted that there was nothing to be done. This experience was the only downside to an otherwise perfect day, and it is very disappointing considering that we paid over $1,000 for their services. Long story short, don't have La Cocina cater...
