Really disappointed in our visit this time.
We went for my birthday. Specifically chose the restaurant and location because it’s one of our favs, known for a good time, and the kids love it.
Things started off fine. It was my partner and I that showed up first. We were sat right away, ordered drinks and an app, and it all came out quickly.
Once the rest of the party came, it started falling apart. It took a solid 10 mins from my friends and their kids sitting down to being asked for drinks. Then almost immediately they wanted us to order. It seemed like we had a new server since we had 2, but we could never figure out who the new server was because, honestly, neither were great. The server got confused taking orders and seemed super annoyed with us when we explained who had already ordered and asked to make sure she had down what we wanted.
The food arrived quickly, fresh and hot! Great! We tried to order another round of drinks but only one person at the table ever ended up getting anything that was ordered - and it was water. We would have had a couple more margaritas each, but they never came.
About halfway through dinner one of our waitresses asked me if I’d like a churro sundae for my birthday dessert. I told her that sounded great. A few minutes later we saw them getting things together to celebrate, but the littles were in the restroom with their mom so my partner ran over and asked if we could wait for them to come back before celebrating. They’d seen other celebrations in the time we were there and were super excited to see the one brought to our table. Again, the server seemed frustrated but agreed.
Once the girls were back they headed over with the sparklers and hat - and placed it in front of my friend’s husband. The music was SO loud that when I my friend tried to politely explain the celebration was for me the server didn’t hear so my friend got a little louder. They tried to push the dessert to me but at this point we were about halfway through the song and the sparklers had gone out. One of the singers, and I’m guessing managers, did his best to save the situation by pulling a large sombrero off the wall for the second half. It was quite the sombrero!
I’m old enough to be disappointed but understand things happen. My irritation came from the part where the girls were super excited and had sat on either side of me so they could share my celebration and treat but were asking why the restaurant sang happy birthday to their dad when it was my birthday. We explained it was just a funny mishap. On top of it all, the server tried to tell us that they did that because my friend had told them it was her husband’s birthday. Then why ask me what I wanted for my birthday treat?
After the celebration there were no questions about more drinks - the second round we ordered had still not arrived - or if anyone else wanted to order dessert. We totally would have ordered one or two more things to share. A churro sundae split between 4 adults and 2 kids doesn’t go very far. There was nothing about boxes. One of the servers came over and handed the check to my friend’s husband and walked away. We did end up getting boxes because we asked for them, and thankfully the missing drinks weren’t on our tab, but it was such a strange way to end. Almost felt like they were asking us to leave.
We got the hint and headed out. Everyone at the front wished me happy birthday, thanked us for coming in and welcomed us back - like they always do.
Overall, I’m chalking it up to a learning experience for the new server and hoping this isn’t the norm....
Read moreFat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar in Frankfort is easily one of the most fun and flavorful dining experiences around! From the second you walk in, you can feel the energy — upbeat music, colorful décor, the smell of fresh tortillas and sizzling fajitas filling the air. It’s one of those places where you can’t help but smile because the whole atmosphere just feels good. Whether you’re coming for dinner with friends, celebrating a special occasion, or grabbing margaritas after work, Fat Rosie’s never disappoints.
Let’s start with the food — absolutely phenomenal. Everything tastes fresh, well-seasoned, and made with real care. The tacos are bursting with flavor, from the perfectly grilled carne asada to the crispy shrimp and flavorful al pastor. You can tell the ingredients are high quality, and the balance of flavors is spot on. The guacamole and queso fundido are must-haves to start, and the street corn is addictive — smoky, creamy, and perfectly charred. The portion sizes are generous without being over the top, and every plate looks as good as it tastes.
Now, the drinks — wow. This is the place to go for margaritas and tequila lovers. The cocktail menu is creative and extensive, with everything from traditional lime margaritas to unique seasonal specials. The bartenders really know their craft — every drink is well-balanced and beautifully presented. If you like tequila or mezcal, you’ll be impressed by their selection — it’s one of the best in the area. The “Fat Rosie” house margarita is a classic for a reason, and the flavored ones (like mango or spicy watermelon) are incredible.
The service is top-notch too. Everyone on staff is friendly, upbeat, and attentive without hovering. You can tell they genuinely enjoy working there — they greet you with a smile, keep the food coming hot, and make sure your drinks never run dry. Even when the restaurant is packed, the service stays efficient and organized, which says a lot about how well the team runs things.
The vibe is another major reason this place stands out. It’s lively without being chaotic — perfect lighting, upbeat music, and décor that blends modern Mexican style with a fun, festive flair. You can bring anyone here — family, a date, coworkers, or friends — and it just works for every occasion. It’s the kind of restaurant that turns a normal night out into something memorable.
I’ve been to Fat Rosie’s multiple times now, and it’s consistently excellent. The food quality never slips, the drinks are always on point, and the staff always makes you feel welcome. It’s rare to find a spot that combines this level of fun and flavor with such reliable service and attention to detail.
If you’re in or around Frankfort, Fat Rosie’s Taco & Tequila Bar is a must-try. Whether you’re craving authentic Mexican food, amazing drinks, or just a great atmosphere, this place delivers it all. Every visit feels like a celebration — and that’s exactly how a restaurant should be.
Five stars without question — phenomenal food, drinks, service, and energy. Fat Rosie’s is easily one of my favorite spots in the south...
Read moreWe went to celebrate my brothers graduation here and the waiter we had was so rude. First time here. They didn’t have a kids menu so for my 3 year old I ordered 2 tamales thinking they were going to be regular tamales. So when we all got our food. Tamales had pico de gallo salsa, sour cream. I brought it up telling him my 3yr old was not going to eat that bc it was buried in pico de gallo, salsa and sour cream. Kids are so picky and the fact that the waiter knew it was for my 3 year old and he didn’t offer me to change them for without all that stuff was crazy to me. He said you told me with everything. First of all he never asked me if I wanted them with everything. Secondly, knowing and seeing that how buried in stuff they were when he took the order he should have asked if I was sure bc they came with all that stuff. The fact he said it with an attitude “you said with everything” which I did not. He walked away. I said I wanted my quesabirrias with everything. We spent close to $700. Out of courtesy at least for my 3 yr old he should have asked if there was something else he could bring out for him, instead he walked away. We took the tamales. It was 2 of them. And I have to say no wonder they pack them with all these salsas. There isn’t any meat in them. They were suppose to be chicken. First and last time I will come to fat Rosie’s. They don’t even deserve a star. You get way more for your money at other establishment and the food here not the best for what they are charging. I also had the so call quesabirrias and it ain’t it they were cold and barely any cheese in them. Also do not go in groups bigger than 5 it’s...
