Slurping Bear Asian Bistro — Restaurant in Frankfort

This is a new restaurant with the staff still working out their service flow. We had dinner here on a busy holiday weekend night. We were seated quickly and received prompt service. Our waitress was friendly and had a strong knowledge of the menu and ingredients. The food was delicious. We had pork and chicken bao buns, crab rangoons, vermicelli salad, sezchuan chicken and shrimp pad thai. The only complaint about the food was that the vermicelli noodles were undercooked. The salad dressing flavor was delicious though. We noticed as our meal went on that other diners were coming in and being told that the wait was long, and the kitchen was backed up. We also noticed that the kitchen was sending out very large take-out orders at a steady rate. However, this seemed to be affecting the kitchen's ability to feed the dine-in patrons in a timely manner. One family that was seated while we were eating was never approached by wait staff, even to take a drink order, and they got up and left. This being said, our food and service was good. Having worked in the restaurant industry for decades, I would say again that this is a new restaurant and they are working out the kinks. This place has gone completely downhill. The manager, who is a bigger brunette woman stomping around like she owns the place is hands down the worst part of the experience. She barked orders at the staff like they were beneath her, and you could feel the tension in the room. Zero professionalism, zero warmth. She looked annoyed at everyone’s existence, including the customers.

Our waitress was clearly drowning! Running around like crazy while the manager stood there doing nothing helpful. She looked scared to even breathe wrong. I felt guilty even asking for a water refill. No one should be treated like that at work.

And don’t get me started on the food. It tasted like it was made by someone who’s long since stopped caring. No heart, no flavor, no soul….just something slapped together and tossed out. Even the fried stuff was sad. How do you mess up CRAB RANGOONS lol?

We were really looking forward to trying this place, but unfortunately the experience fell short. We waited 35 minutes to be seated, which we understood given how busy it was. Once seated, it took another hour before our food arrived. In that time, we watched another table leave after being disappointed with their meal.

When we asked for an update, we were told the kitchen was short-staffed, totally understandable, and we don’t mind waiting if we’re given clear expectations. But even after that, it was another 20 minutes before food came out.

When it finally arrived, my husband’s pad Thai looked like it had been sitting out for quite a while. Both my daughter’s and my ramen were missing ingredients, and the noodles were hard.
