While in town for a baseball tournament I asked the front desk for a recommendation for “good local barbecue, the kind of place your manager will fire you for recommending”. BB’s is where we ended up going and we weren’t disappointed. Warning, I’m fairly certain that it’s drive thru only.
My son got a pulled pork sandwich combo with chips and a drink and I got a pork and ribs platter with corn, baked beans, & cornbread.
The flavor in their pulled pork is perfect. The texture of the meat is excellent with enough chew to let you know you’re eating pork, but it was juicy and fell apart nicely.
The ribs were next level excellent! It’s been years since I have been able to achieve such perfection in rib smoking! The meat was tender and fell off of the bone, yet was not over cooked to the point it falls apart. The bark was delicious and full of that smokey bbq flavor good ribs should deliver.
Their white sauce and mild sauce are both very good. I’ve never had a white sauce that I liked and this one has a dimension to it I cannot describe… other than to say it’s very good and I’ll definitely try it again. For a bbq connoisseur who doesn’t care for white sauce, that’s a huge compliment.
Generally speaking their sides were good. I was not a fan of their corn. Perhaps the perfection of the meats had me expecting more, but the corn was just meh.
I enjoyed their baked beans, but I make an incredible baked beans, so the standard is exceptionally high and, well, not realistically attainable by most food purveyors.
My son really enjoyed their mac and cheese. He gave me a bite and I would say it was good. Lots of cheese and perhaps cottage cheese to round out the creaminess.
I’d say the biggest disappointment was the corn bread. I found it dry. Perhaps that’s a local thing, but I like my corn bread moist and crumbly like a good cup cake. This corn bread is good for slicing. I’d bet it would make for excellent corn bread French toast. Lacking a bunch of butter and maple syrup, I just couldn’t figure out how to eat the corn bread and be satisfied with the calories.
The staff was great! I don’t know if we ordered from the owner or an employee, but they were helpful making selections and genuinely happy to serve us.
I felt like I was robbing them because the two meals were so cheap. $25 for more food than the two of us could eat! I would pay $40 for these two meals at a good bbq trailer back home.
This was an excellent experience and my son has already said that the next time we are in Nashville, he wants to make sure we get BB’s. I’m in full agreement!
Atmosphere 5 - if you’re expecting a well kept neat and tidy building and lot, well it’s a zero to you… but that’s not what bbq is about. It’s rough. You’ll see plenty of weeds around and, well, a parched together trailer looking building for a drive thru restaurant. Bbq perfection in my book.
Service 5 - helpful , honest, and quick. I could not ask for more.
Corn bread - 3 dry to me. Serviceable if you must have it but definitely not something I’m coming back for.
Baked beans - 4 good, but not mine and not memorable.
Corn - 2.5 not exciting at all. The corn wasn’t even sweet. It’s just not worth the calories and carbs in my book.
Mac & Cheese - 4 it’s very good if you’re into mac & cheese. I’m not driving 30 minutes for it, but it’s good.
Pulled pork - 5 hella good says my son, and I concur.
Ribs - 5 next level excellent! I didn’t even offer my son a taste and I’d drive an hour for these ribs!
Thanks for the great food BB’s. We look forward to visiting again the next time we’re...
Read moreI would give a zero if I could. I asked owner if he could make me a brisket and sausage sandwich at drive through and he said "no he could not do that here but he could put sausage on the side" I said that's fine and continued with order of my sandwich and a couple other things and then once I received my food my brisket sandwich was not there. Went back to window pulled out receipt and noticed he had sold a pork sandwich on the ticket " which wasn't in bag either" then he proceded to say I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and that he wasn't crazy and knows what I asked for. After going back and forth and him calling me a liar. He said he would make me a brisket sandwich. At this point by blood was starting to boil and I tried to give him the food back and I asked for a refund. But he said they don't do refunds. He would make me a sandwich but not give my money back and continued to insist I was wrong. At this point I told him to keep the sandwich and my money (note to owner if happen to read this. Don't expect a customer to eat a sandwich that's made behind closed doors from someone upset at that customer.) I'm a very easy going person that doesn't get upset easy but when I told owner to keep sandwich and my money i guess and that I'm going to leave before I get any more angry, he started acting like he wanted to fight and said "I bet you can't whoop me, you're in the hood" at that point I left with no refund, no sandwich and him yelling " we don't do refunds in the hood!"... That may be so, but me and anyone I can get the word to won't do BB's BBQ. By the way, their prices aren't as advertised on menu and I still have a fly in my truck from where it flew out of their drive thru window...
Read moreI I just visited for the first time about five minutes ago. I drove through the drive-through and realize that I had missed the menu board. I ask the man who came to the window about the menu, he became very upset that I drove past the menu board. I ask him if he had a menu that I could look at, he proceeded to tell me that I can’t hold up the line to do that and that I need to know what I want to order before I come up to the window. I explained to him that it was my first time there. Mind you, there was no one behind me. This escalated to a point that I asked to speak to the manager. He tells me that he is the manager. I said, that is truly sad and started driving away. He yells “it’s sad that you drove past the menu board.” And yells “f@&! You!! I’ve heard that the food is great but it definitely isn’t worth that treatment. Absolutely...
