Had a great dinner this evening with our family friends that recommend this restaurant. We were able to walk in and get a table. We were a party of six. We started with edamame and two sushi rolls of Jane and spicy tuna. Wished the spicy tuna was a little more spicy. Up next were chicken teriyaki bento box, veg and shrimp tempura dinner and kids chicken tempura. All the food was very good just wished better vegetables options like broccoli instead of two green beans. Overall very good and excited to share the positive review. Umi Japanese Restaurant, located at 4000 Hughes Crossing #100 in Franklin, Tennessee, offers a delightful Japanese dining experience. Known for its fresh sushi, flavorful bento boxes, and attentive service, Umi has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The restaurant operates Tuesday through Saturday, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. While reservations are accepted, it’s advisable to call ahead, especially on weekdays when the restaurant tends to be busy . Umi’s menu features a variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Their sushi is praised for its freshness and beautiful presentation, with options like the Hurricane Roll and Sashimi Deluxe standing out. The bento boxes offer a satisfying assortment, including teriyaki beef and chicken, accompanied by hand-cut vegetables and well-seasoned fried rice . Customer reviews highlight the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere. One patron noted, “We love Umi and eat here regularly. Their sushi is always top-notch.” Another mentioned the bento box as “a wonderful variety of so many things they have to offer” . While some reviews mention longer wait times during peak hours, the overall consensus is that the dining experience is worth it. In summary, Umi Japanese Restaurant provides a cozy setting with authentic Japanese cuisine. Whether you’re in the mood for fresh sushi, a hearty bento box, or simply a pleasant dining experience, Umi is a commendable choice in Franklin.

Updated June 5 2021 Every place has a bad day so I thought is was time to give Umi a new try 3rd try Ok. Here we go No seating permitted at the nice sushi bar they have. .. I like to look at my sushi to see what looks good fresh so this was scary The server worked very hard very very hard and kept things moving at prime dinner time Limited wine selection and a 10....yes TEN Dollar corking fee So how was my sushi? I could not see what the fish looked like as if I sat the bar ... so I stuck with salmon and tuna it was good fresh and cold So as because of the service and good sushi upgrading this to a 4 It still is the only Japanese place in the area May 2020 I love good Asian food and sushi , which is why I do not reccomend this establishment. As always when I have a poor experience anywhere ( Especially food establishments) I update march 2014 I have ot my second try…well allost They looked busy so I talked to a couple whe were leaving. They were not happy. It was early, So we decided to go elsewhere. The service is slow The Sushi was not the freshest or looking. There is nothing special about Umi except the lack of local Japanese cuisine competition.

I was going to go to my go-to place but they were closing soon and Umi is around the corner from me, so I figured i would try it. First, everyone saying they have great sushi, knows NOTHING about sushi! #FACT They don’t allow seating at the sushi bar. They only had a few tables and all were taken. They removed half or more of their tables. Not good! So I decided to place a to go order. The menu was “ok” at best, not a huge selection. I placed my order and it took over 45 min to get it done. Good thing I didn’t stay to eat there. 🤦‍♂️ Get home and open the container, I was shocked! The rolls were the diameter of a nickel and the “special” roll was maybe of a quarter. They do not make sushi like an actual sushi house! Frankly, I should have gone to Publix and got their sushi, it would have cost me a ton less and would have been just as good as Umi. Umi, is over priced for what you get. I would never recommend Umi to anyone looking for sushi. That’s a fact! I’ll stick to my go-to place.

Let's just start by saying if you are looking for a tasty Japanese food experince you will regret it! Because UMI is the wrong place! We had different dishes and there was a lot to desired besides the $2.50 uncharged for the terrible fried rice. I ordered a salmon bowl. The presentation was acceptable on a cast iron skillet, no a lot of vegetables on it but it tasted ok. When it comes to salmon, the fish I was served was not salmon by long shot. I was served tilapia. When I questioned the waitress, she said let me ask. Then an Asian lady came to the table and quite insistent that the fish I was eating was salmon. I told her that know how salmon taste. She rolled her eyes and she basically had an attitude and was argumentative that the fish I was eating was salmon. I said, I'm just letting you know this fish is not salmon. There not way in hell the fish was salmon. Then she walked away with the waitress saying we do not have talapia here. But, I'm seen the fish on skillet being a white fish! My husband had the beef teriyaki, and didn't care for it either. The beef was rubbery and tasted terrible. My son had the teriyaki chicken, this was a horrible dish as well. The chicken was all dark meat and tasted terrible. Besides that the food seemed to be previously cooked and then reheated in an air frier. You could also hear the air frier going off in the back as other patrons were coming in to dine and ordering their food. So, I'll not reccomend this food to anyone. No one should be subjected to bad food! I did not appreciated the deceitfulness about the fish I was served. As I said before I know how salmon taste like. The waitress was nice and attentive, but the person that came to out table was not. We still paid for the terrible food we were served. Eventhough, the restaurant might have nice reviews for sushi, and that coukd be true, but their foods in the menu is terrible. We will NEVER return to this place. UMI is the worse Japanese food I have ever experienced with my family. This was a birthday celebration that...
