I found this little place last night while travelling from Annapolis, MD to Ligonier, PA (Pittsburgh area). I decided to jump off of the hectic I-70, and roam the US40 corridor, trying to find remnants of my youth (typical for me under the circumstances -- after attending a friend's memorial service).
After much indecision, I ordered the #39 (Churrasco) with beans and rice -- to go, as I was running out of daylight. While I waited for my order to come up, the owner (?) and I made conversation -- about old stomping grounds (College Park area), snowfall (the 1993 "Storm of the Century"), and life in general. It was like visiting with an old friend. When my order arrived, I left to resume my adventure.
My search to find that memory was in vain. I had lost daylight and fog was settling in the mountains. I parked my cramped Miata and settled in to have a bite to eat. The meats (chicken, steak and sausage) were tasty. A bit salty for me (lower salt diet has me a bit salt-sensitive), but not so much that I could not enjoy it - still a four plus on my scale out of five. The tortillas were a nice touch and wrapped in foil and appeared to be homemade. I put half aside because it was a large portion and then started on the black beans and rice. The beans were very good, but the rice was exquisite -- creamy and fluffy. I think I'm having withdrawal because it's the next day and I want more. No photos as it was dark inside Marvin (the Miata, long story) and I didn't want him to suffer the indignities of being used as a picnic feast, excellent as it was.
In looking for old memories, I made a new one. I hope to...
Read moreWe love the taste of the food we ordered which is the Peruvian pollo ala brasa chicken breast meal served with Yuca and and the other same order served with platanos . I also ordered 2 Pupusas chicharon con queso. I really did not like the way they made the Pupusas . I do not know if there are different ways to make Pupusas , But for me I do not like their Pupusas , it taste different and the Cortido is color orange and did not taste good. Thankfully , the soda can is not flat. The wall of the restaurant is nice and the place is clean . I do not know if the one who was in the register is the owner , but he...
Read moreI'm new to Peruvian chicken and everyone recommended Sardi's. I wasn't impressed so I thought I'd stop by to try Del Rancho. I'm so glad I did! The chicken a little over cooked but they fry the yucca to order unlike other places. I've only ever had the green beans as my other side but they are delicious and not over cooked as well. The aji verde has a pleasant kick to it. Great prices, friendly staff and the place is spotless. Looking forward to trying their Honduran menu some time. I find myself coming here to pick up a quick dinner once...
