Edit: it's been 5 Years since I've eaten here and I wish I never came back. I was excited to be in Frederick again at my old fave restaurant despite what happened to my then fiancée. I'd like to note here that I'm breastfeeding, and the day my friend and I visited, I had worked through the morning without breakfast, setting up florals for the first wedding of the day. We ordered our drinks and went to get food. I was starving and honestly it makes me anxious to get up for plates multiple times so I usually do it all in one go. I've always done this. So... I had three plates with scoops of different foods I like. One plate was from the bar with Asian meat and veg. As I sat my plates down and took my first bite the food was very cold. My waitress who looked like she hates her life was only attentive in watching me get food and staring at us when we finished eating was leaning on the walls that separate dining and the buffet looking dazed and bored half to death. I got up and approached her and let her know the food was cold on that specific buffet then returned to my table. She proceeded to stir all of the food on the wrong buffet before apparently letting someone know... possibly a manager, to temp the food. I was unaware of this as I'd returned my focus to eating and was approached by the woman with a thermometer insisting the food was 130 degrees. I said ok I had just wanted to let someone know my food had been cold. She then looked at my three plates and told me maybe if I got 1 plate at a time my food wouldn't be cold. I said I just sat down and my first bite was cold so that's not what happened. I'm not one of those people who takes excessive food I won't eat and I have always gotten multiple plates at once. I felt that was super rude of her to say to me and honestly mindless because I literally had just started eating which was apparent. If you enjoy miserable waitstaff and rude/defensive management, go to flaming grill. The drug heads hanging in the plaza outside the doors were a nice touch. ✨️
I actually really love it here but its lost a star for a couple of reasons. One, the food has been dry on many occasions. Especially the chicken and the cakes. But, that's not the biggest reason for this loss... I took my fiance on a date here a few months ago and as we ate her lips began to swell. We went over her food choices trying to figure out what she could have possibly eaten. There are zero allergy indicators... in this case we theorize she had eaten something cross contaminated with tree nuts or oranges. Anyone in the food business knows, cross continamination of any kind is a BIG no no. Not to mention the lack of warning signs for people with allergies. To make this a little clearer for you she had lo mein, fried rice, a bunch of seafood, and some of my favorite fried chicken wings they have. None of these visabsly had nuts/orange nor, as I said any indication of them. Alas, besides my fiance almost choking on her tongue come the end of the evening I find this place delicious and enjoyable to attend. The waitresses are very attentive and the prices are decent for a buffet. Try the coin push game at the entry if you get a...
Read moreBefore last night I would have given this restraunt 4 stars as far as Chinese buffets go, after last night I don't even feel like it deserves the one star I had to give it. Can we say ROACH how about 3 inch, huge. ugly ROACH crawling up my back, more about that in a minute.
Before last night I highly recommended this restraunt. I have been with my family, my church family and my clients many times. In fact I was there yesterday because I convinced my daughter and son-in-law who don't care for these types of buffets to come. Most of the food was ok but a lot of the item were luke warm and even hardened because it was left out too long. We were there on a Sunday night 3 hours before closing.
Service was the worst we had ever received. I'm not sure if our server was faking it or not but she acted like she didn't understand a word we were saying. We were seated in the back room. Servers who were apparently trying to get off work took up a table next to ours and started rolling their silver ware and doing their side work, ultimately they turned on their music on their phone and started playing it so loud that we had to raise our voices to talk over it.
Our server I believe was trying to get out of there too. While we were still eating she put the check on the table. Not necessarily bad, but she came back six times while we were still eating and picked up the bill plate from the table. We had to tell her each time no it's not ready yet. One time that she tried to pick up the bill, my son-in-law who had a full plate in front of him asked her for another soda. She gave him a look that could kill and then said something to the other servers at the table next to us. My son-in law questioned her about her reaction because he thought maybe he had done something wrong. She acted like she couldn't understand what he was saying.
The last time she came back for the bill was the worst. Just before she came to the table to collect the bill again my son-in-law noticed that huge ROACH crawling up my back, my husband swiftly brushed it off of me as I jumped out of my seat. We couldn't tell where it had landed (was it on my jacket hanging behind my seat, still on my clothes or worse on my husband). The server came up as I jumped up, once again to collect the bill. My daughter was paying with a credit card. The server picked up the bill and told my daughter, (who was also standing at this point and starting to check the clothes of my grand children who had been playing in the corner) that she needed to sign the bill. My daughter told her that instead of worrying so much about the bill could you help us figure out where that Roach went!? The server walked away and said nothing! Needless to say we were done! Even though we were still on dessert and coffee, we were not staying another second. I asked to speak with the manager and told him only about the ROACH. He acted like he didn't believe us and simply apologized and walked away. So with that said I recommend you simply walk away from...
Read moreWent there today, 8/10/2014, for lunch after church for the very first time. We were treated to EXCELLENT customer service. The gentleman who seated us (I think he was the manager) asked what type of table we preferred because we have small children. We chose a booth and he seated us in the corner away from the buffet. Some people would not like this, but we were happy because our girls are a little rambunctious (even in Sunday dresses) and this way they couldn't bother any one else. Our waitress was always right there refilling our water and taking away dishes, asking if we needed anything, but not being bothersome at all.
The food choices were AMAZING. Prime rib, bbq chicken, ham roast, whole MD crabs, crawfish, octopus salad, oysters on the half-shell, boiled shrimp, stuffed shrimp, fried shrimp, and that's before you ever get to the back of the restaurant where the Asian dishes, Sushi bar and Hibachi are located. There was something for all of us to to enjoy - pizza, chicken nuggets, fried fish, french fries for our little girls.
We do have some complaints about preparation. Some of the sushi rolls had a "fishy" taste to them, as did the crab rangoon (odd, as they should not have fish in them) which were not prepared as I have had at other Asian restaurants. The cooked sushi rolls were a bit dry and the stuffed shrimp did not have much flavor (they LOOKED wonderful!). Some of the regular dishes - General Tsos, sweet and sour - were a bit tough and may have been on the bar a while. All in all though, there was so much to choose from that if you didn' t like something, you just went back to try something else - which we DID! The bacon wrapped chicken was awesome. The salmon in some kind of sauce was delicious - I usually find salmon a bit "fishy" but this was really good. There was more variety of sushi rolls than I have ever seen on a Sushi bar. The line at the Hibachi bar was so long we did not try it, but it must be good if so many people were willing to wait. I found the dumplings to be good, but not stuffed with the norm. It had beef and something green inside. Still, tasty. The coconut shrimp was awesome. I even tried the pizza and it was thick and yeasty and my daughters loved it.
We went today because our church just announced, after 2 years, they are moving their monthly birthday celebration lunches from Golden Corral (which we love) to Flaming Grill & Buffet. Nothing against Golden Corral, they just wanted a change. We liked it and we will be going back for the birthday lunches, but our favorite Asian buffet with Sushi bar is Chef Lin on Jefferson Pike, just for pure freshness of the sushi and overall food quality. We may change our mind after future visits to Flaming Grill, though.
