⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Our reservations at Locavor were for 5pm, and from the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted and promptly seated. Service started off smoothly—our server quickly brought water, gave us time with the menu, and set a welcoming tone for the evening.
I ordered my go-to cocktail, an Old Fashioned, which was perfectly crafted—balanced, smooth, and exactly how it should be.
Starters: We began with the Kalbi Beef Skewers and the Chalet Farm Melon Salad. The skewers were cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and glazed in a sauce that was sticky, sweet, and deeply savory. The toasted sesame seeds and fresh green onions added just the right nutty crunch and brightness. The melon salad was just as impressive—bite-sized cantaloupe and watermelon paired with tangy biquinho peppers, cooling Greek yogurt, and crushed almonds. Sweet, spicy, creamy, and nutty—it was a perfect balance of flavors.
Mains: For entrées, we tried the Autumn Olive Farm Denver Pork Chop and the Roseda Farm Flank Steak. The pork chop was juicy, tender, and beautifully seasoned, elevated by a fig gochujang sauce that hit sweet, spicy, and umami notes all at once. The char-grilled cabbage added smokiness, while the white sweet potatoes gave a nutty sweetness that tied the dish together. The flank steak was equally outstanding—cooked to a perfect medium rare, brightened by fresh chimichurri, with an earthy eggplant purée and crisp tempura-fried onions that brought sweetness, crunch, and texture to every bite.
Dessert: We finished with the Pipe Dreams Goat Cheesecake. While it was disappointing that coffee isn’t offered yet, the cheesecake more than made up for it. Smooth, creamy, and not overly sweet, it was beautifully complemented by a sunflower-sesame crunch and fresh Virginia peaches that added a nutty, floral, tangy finish.
Overall, Locavor delivered a phenomenal dining experience. Their modern American cuisine with an Asian twist shines in every dish—thoughtful, balanced, and full of flavor. We can’t wait to return and try more...
Read moreFrom start to finish, this restaurant delivered one of the most memorable dining experiences we've ever had. The starters, the Badger Beet Salad and the Outer Banks Tuna Crudo, were nothing short of a flavor journey. Each bite layered with freshness and creativity. Both dishes easily rank among the best we've ever enjoyed. For the main courses, the Locavore Burger stood out as a masterpiece. Perfectly cooked, bursting with flavor, and impeccable balanced, it set a new standard for what a great burger should be. The flank steak followed with equal excellence tender, expertly seasoned and prepared with true precision. The Rocinate cocktail rounded out the meal beautifully. It struck just the right balance, not overly sweet, but refreshingly nuanced, complementing the dishes without overpowering them. Dessert was the perfect finale. The Espresso Martini Tiramisu and Pipe Dream Goat Cheesecake were absolute perfection, both indulgent yet refined showing the same thoughtful craftsmanship as the rest of the menu. Behind it all is an incredible Chef partnered with a seasoned general manager, whose passion for locally sourced ingredients and seasonal menus shines through in every detail. The frequent menu changes ensure that each visit offers something new and exciting, making it the kind of place you'll want to return week after week. Highly recommended for anyone who values culinary artistry paired with genuine hospitality. The restaurant is true gem that just opened in the downtown Fredericksburg. 5 Star Update 9/14/2025 - went back to Locavore this past Sunday for dinner. I selected the Badger Beet Salad & Locavore Burger. Unfortunately the Beet Salad was average missing several things from my 1st experience. Both the Beet Salad and the Locavore burgers presentations were unimpressive and represented what I would see in a diner. I suspect the main chef was off and someone else was preparing the dishes....
Read moreWe tried to make dinner reservations, but nothing was available til 8:00pm. However, between our arrival around 5:45 till our departure at 7:15 the dining area was largely empty. We decided to sit at the Folklore rooftop bar and it was a great atmosphere and beautiful evening. The decor was attractive and the cocktail list looked good, however we were unable to order from the full dinner menu so we moved downstairs and sat at the bar. Not a deal-breaker, but just something to be aware of.
The service was wonderful and the staff was very attentive. We were a bit underwhelmed by the food, however, because while the ingredients seemed fresh, the flavors and depth of the offerings were not equal to the price of the meal. Our drinks were “ok”, but we did not find them to be anything special.
I ordered the Locavore Burger and a peach/soda mocktail at the suggestion of the bartender. The beef patty was tender and was topped with braised short rib. The flavor was good but didn’t stand out to me as anything exceptional. I do wish there was some form of vegetable topping to add texture and freshness. The peach soda mocktail was underwhelming but I appreciate that the bartender made the effort, seeing as there were no mocktails on the menu. I do wish there were fresh herbs/aromatics to enhance the flavor. More specifically, though, I think having house-made non-alcoholic offerings on the menu would have been better.
My husband got the flank steak, and said it was “fine” without any additional praise. He was mildly disappointed with his Old Fashioned, saying the proportions of ingredients were wrong. Also the bartender claimed to use rye but used bourbon instead.
The location right in the heart of downtown is great and I think there is a lot of potential for this new addition to Fredericksburg! But we were underwhelmed on our first visit and I think an elevation to their menu offerings could lead to a better...
