We stayed at the Ironclad Inn on Saturday June 26, 2025. We found the Inn and staff wonderful in every way. We especially enjoyed the Bourbon tasting room.
The Inn is comfortable and quiet. The common areas are beautifully decorated with original works of art (for sale) along with lots of books for reading and chairs and sofas for relaxing. The front porch has several rockers and swings for relaxing. The grounds are beautiful.
The bedroom was well equipped, albeit a bit smaller than expected, but that is a price for working within the confines of a historic structure and refitting modern amenities into a space not originally configured for them. The bathroom has a jetted tub and shower combo. Besides the normal soaps and shampoo provided, the Inn provided tootbrushes, toothpaste, and shaving razors. The bed is very comfortable with lots of pillows and a soft quilt cover. The A/C is quiet and effective. There is a Keurig coffee maker in the room as well as bottled water The Inn has done a fabulous job modernizing this historic home.
The food was great- we enjoyed a delicious quiche and strawberries for breakfast with orange juice and coffee.
The Inn is conveniently located to walking downtown Fredericksburg and is closed to historic battlefield sites.
Parking is on the street, but not really an issue.
Our only wish is that we would have liked to have stayed longer. We strongly recommend the Ironclad Inn for anyone visiting Fredericksburg. Staying at the Ironclad Inn is an experience that...
Read moreAbsolutely loved our stay—such Old World charm and cozy atmosphere! The room had so much character, and little touches like the mints and the plentiful bottled water made it feel welcoming and thoughtful. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable, and the towels and washcloths were thick and luxurious—such a treat!
The breakfast was truly AMAZING—delicious, plentiful, and beautifully presented. It really set the tone for the day and was a highlight of our visit.
There are just a few small suggestions that could make this gem even better: – The room to the right when you first walk in had a few cobwebs in the window—nothing major, but a quick tidy-up would make it feel even more polished. – The room and bathroom are on the smaller side, but still very charming. The vintage-style light fixture in the bathroom is lovely, though a brighter bulb would be helpful for makeup application. – It would also be great to have a shelf or a small table in the bathroom for toiletries and a place to put clean clothes when showering. – A towel rack outside the tub would be handy, and the water pressure could be a little stronger.
The Bourbon Tasting room downstairs was fabulous! Would highly recommend for drinks, food, service & atmosphere. Fantastic!
Overall, it was a delightful stay and we’d...
Read moreThe Ironclad Inn is a beautiful historic property. The owner and staff provide top-notch friendly service to make sure your stay is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
We have a service dog and they could not have been more accommodating to include providing a pet bed, a new ball, and offering a water bowl.
Bottled and cold water and fresh fruit are available in thr lobby. There is a cozy den and seating on the front porch as well.
The basement bar is warm and inviting. We enjoyed cocktails and dinner, both of which were expertly crafted. There was also a traveling acting troupe holding the opening celebration for their upcoming offering of a Christmas Carol.
The breakfast included in our stay was great and again the service was impeccable. We checked out and had a wonderful conversation before we departed. Prior to leaving the city we walked to the convenient Hyperion Coffee just a couple of blocks away.
We highly recommend the Ironclad Inn for anyone looking to spend time in...
