I was excited to be going to this establishment because I had heard that it'a Veteran owned business & being a Veteran myself, I try to support Veteran owned businesses! First time coming there was for Fat Tuesday w/8 other friends. Three of us arrived early to try & get good seats because we knew we had a large party. I know we frustrated Jason because we were undecided where to sit at first but I did apologize for that; several times!! We had 2 tables right behind each other so we were able to turn our chairs around to talk to each other. Being that it was my first time there I walked up to the bar to see what kind of beers they had. Can't say that was met w/a friendly reception by the bar staff. We did have quite a few questions about what we could expect to be happening for the evening & questions about their craft beers. Again we could tell Jason was frustrated as observed by the rolling of his eyes! We had one round then were informed by Lauren that Jason was getting off his shift so we had to cash out; no problem. I will be the first to acknowledge that several times I left the table forgetting my mask but when reminded by staff I put it on. I was at some point cutoff because the staff said, "I was soliciting men for drinks." When asked if they could tell me what customer said that I was told, "We can see you because you're going around to other tables." I replied that yes I was being friendly w/people but I certainly wasn't asking anyone, men or women, to buy me a drink & I even had people from tables that I had visited tell the staff I hadn't asked any of them for a drink. I then again asked if a specific claim had been made. "No but we see you." So they presumed to know what I was talking about at a table that wasn't even close to the bar?? What made all of this worse was that the staff did NOT inform me personally that I was cutoff but rather a stranger who invited me to their table; who went up to the bar to say the beer I ordered 20 minutes ago could be delivered to his table instead!!! Not only did they tell him (& not me the paying customer) but also that I was soliciting drinks from men!!! Seriously how embarrassing!!! The evening went down hill from there!!! On top of all of that drama everyone at the table who paid w/a credit card was REFUSED a copy (we email them they were told) & when everyone of them reviewed their online receipt the next day they found they were overcharged & in one case "someone gave themselves a $32 tip over & above what was already given!" The next day one member of our party called to complain only to hear that our party had been written up!!! After my friend explained what TRULY happened she was given a $25 credit! I for one will NEVER go here again & feel I am owed an apology for the way I was treated & humiliated!!! As a side note most of those who ordered food said it was good! UPDATE TO THIS REVIEW IS THAT I STOPPED IN & SPOKE TO A MANAGER, JAMES, (WHO STATED HE WAS A VETERAN HIMSELF) WHO APOLOGIZED FOR MY BAD EXPERIENCE & WOULD HAVE SOMEONE CALL ME. ONE OF THE OWNERS, BRENT (ALSO A VETERAN) CALLED ME, ASKED ME MY VERSION OF THE EVENTS. WHEN I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED HE SAID, "HIS TEAM SAID THEY NEVER SAID I WAS SOLICITING MEN FOR DRINKS; THAT I WAS CUT OFF BECAUSE THEY FELT I WAS TOO INTOXICATED (ASK THE OTHER 8 PEOPLE IN MY GROUP WHO KNOW ME VERY WELL IF I WAS) & AS FAR AS PEOPLE GETTING CHARGED FOR FOOD THEY DIDN'T ORDER, MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE IN THE GROUP DID & IT WAS ACCIDENTALLY ADDED TO ANOTHER PERSON'S CHECK." UNFORTUNATELY WE WENT BACK & FORTH SEVERAL TIMES OVER ALL THE ISSUES OUR GROUP ENCOUNTERED THAT NIGHT NOT AGREEING WITH ONE ANOTHER. WHEN HE ASKED, "HOW CAN WE MAKE IT RIGHT?" (AS IF I'M JUST WANTING SOMETHING FOR FREE WHICH MOST DEFINITELY I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT), I WAS LEFT STILL FEELING LIKE SOMEHOW I'M THE BAD GUY IN THIS ENTIRE SITUATION!!! HE SAID, "YOU NOW HAVE MY NUMBER SO LET ME KNOW WHEN YOU DECIDE TO...
Read moreI arrived to this restaurant at 5:20pm on a Saturday evening and put my name on the wait list as it is first come first serve, we had a party of 7. The employee told me they were waiting on another party to leave but it would only be about 30 minutes wait. After waiting 45 minutes, I went up front to ask how much longer the wait would be, to which the employee responded, she wasn't really sure but probably another 15-20 minutes as the party of 3 sat at the 10 person table had not left yet. As I was approaching an hour wait, I again went over to ask if they would have a seat available soon, as numerous parties who had arrived after me had already been seated. Due to the party continuing to order beers at the larger table the wait staff had us wait an additional 10 minutes to put together 2 tables in the back. Once seated, we had a fabulous experience, food was great, drinks were awesome, and my whole party were discussing plans to come back to the restaurant for its unique style and food/drinks. As soon as we swiped our card on a rather large bill (we each had 2 drinks, we ordered 3 apps to share, and each ordered an entree, spending around $500 between the 7 of us) we were approached by the waitress. She said "I hate to be rude but we have a 2 hour wait so we are going to have to ask you to leave." I found it absolutely absurd that we were asked to leave immediately after paying, had not even sat in the seat for 5 minutes since we paid our bill and tipped the waitress. The reason I found this quite rude was due to the fact I waited an hour to be seated and they had not asked any other customer to leave during this time. I spoke with the manager, to which she responded "COVID rules state that we cannot allow parties to sit at a table longer that 2 hours and we used two of our tables to seat your large party" and she handed me a free appetizer. If these are the rules, they should be told to patrons prior to sitting and should be followed with every individual. The whole experience made me leave on a sour note because I think the business used COVID-19 as a means of removing our party immediately so they could seat another two parties. I have no problem with having a 2 hour limit if these are the rules, but make this known to those visiting your restaurant so they aren't baffled by the waitress insisting they leave immediately after swiping my card on the bill. This is a new restaurant, so I am sure they are still working out the details; I would have given them a 5 out of 5 stars had we not had the experience towards the end.
Food: I would rate the food a 5/5; Absolutely delicious and unique! We ordered the Gulch poutine, S.A.F.T.B. nachos, and cheese plate for apps. For entrees we tried the Mac n' cheese as a side item, bacon jam burgers (The Ramsay Bolton), and one member of our party had the chicken sandwich with pimento cheese (Chet Steadman). All were fabulous and very unique addition to the Fredericksburg restaurant scene.
Drinks: Drinks ranged from $12-$16 which in my opinion is slightly high considering the many bar options downtown. Their special was $10 for a shot of bourbon, originally priced at $20. No shot of alcohol is worth $20 a shot in my opinion. I ordered the flip of the coin which has tequila, pomegranate, lime, orange BBC, and champagne. I was not impressed as this drink was quite sour. I also ordered Jimmy at the Savoy (Whiskey and blackberry maple syrup) which was delicious with just the right hint of sweetness. Other drinks ordered by my party: Urban Orchad (Fan favorite) and The Fearless (Chocolate bitters).
Service: Service was actually really great until the end. The waitress was very courteous and just doing her job when the manager asked for us to leave due to "COVID 19 restrictions." The customer service/management needs some adjusting before I’ll be back, but willing to give it...
Read moreThis place was not what I expected from the reviews. Upon my arrival I was completely ignored! The sign said wait to be seated and I stood there for 7 long minutes and no-one came to seat me. I then walked over to the bar and the girl told me I had to seat myself. I asked did they serve bloody Marys because I saw a picture of it online which prompted me to find this place to get a proper drink. She assured me they made the Bloody Mary and I placed the order and found some place to sit. The bar attendant brought out the most watered down Bloody Mary ever in my life I saw with nothing on it like the reviews. NO bacon. No olives. NO celery. Nothing. Hell I felt lucky to have some ice in it. Then I asked her where was the rest of it and she told me in order to get all the amenities for the drink I had to come back on a Saturday. This was Tuesday. I was completely thrown off. Then she said the most she could do for me was to see if she could scramble some olives up in the back. I said ok. After she walked around talking to everyone she finally made her way to the back to get the olives (by now I had forgotten about) and she came back out with them in her hand on a stick. (No coverings or anything) She stopped again to have a conversation with the table just outside of the kitchen area for a bit. After remembering she had the olives in her hand she promptly walked down to give me the olives holding them openly in her right hand and scratching the inside of her shirt with the left hand. She then proceeded to place the olives over my watered down drink. I then took the olives and sat them on the table because who the hell was eating that nasty mess? I didn't drink the drink I was too disappointed. I then walked up to the bar to pay and she took the card out of my hand and swiped it and then put the card on the table and walked away and said "ok you're done!" RUDE AS HELL! I asked for my receipt and then left. I would NEVER EVER IN MY LIFE walk in this place again. And truth be told that's probably what they intended with the treatment I got. This place is disgustingly rude and I would not recommend this place to anyone. EVER!!! And I figure they delete negative comments because they deleted the last one I posted with the bar attendants name and the receipt and that review is gone. So that tells me a lot already! Pictures are nice though but they aren't the truth or a true indication of this restaurants...
