Amigos — Restaurant in Freeport

UPDATED- 8/2016 Since Amigos remodeled, the atmosphere is much better. Very inviting and peaceful. When I walked in today to revisit the place after all this time away, I was blown away at the immense improvements. I think they even have central air now. The food has also improved since my last visit. I now give it 4 stars. However, I can't say I like the poker machines anymore than I did back then. I don't care what others do with their own money, but poker machines are just not part of a classy restaurant atmosphere.

When I first moved to Freeport back in 2012-2013, the food was exceptional some times. I would frequent the place. But the last time I was there, the food quality seemed to be in decline, or maybe I just got some bad food that day. I'm not sure. Either way, I sent my order back and just got a cheeseburger, and even that was poor. I have not been back since. I did like the atmosphere, though, until they put in gambling machines, then I just didn't feel the same anymore. Not that I have anything against gambling, that's personal business. But it just didn't make it feel like a restaurant to me anymore. I also don't like the fact that the temperature control in the Summer is very poor. I like hot days, but when you go into a restaurant, you want to have a cool environment, you don't want to sweat, and from what I can tell, they don't have a central air conditioning system. Food was good and pretty clean inside they even gave us a jump because we left our lights on. Hands down the absolute worst server we've had since we've moved up north. The waitress didn't check our drinks and we ordered chips with queso and chips were supposed to come with our meal as well but the waitress didn't give us chips with our meal because we ordered chips and queso and I tried asking her several times. She just walked right past us. There was only1 other table in the restaurant. She was busy walking around eating. Then when she finally acknowledged us and I asked for our chips she told me she was sorry that I misunderstood she didn't bring our chips with our meal because we ordered an extra order? Which was our appetizer and was long gone. She mostly just wanted to argue about why she assumed we didn't want our full meal we purchased? Then still didn't refill our drinks. Tried to get her attention a few more times for refill which was ignored until she brought our check. Im completely dumbfounded by the rudeness of this waitress. I've never been so disappointed that I didn't even want to eat my food. How disappointing. I also informed her it was our first time visiting. She didn't seem to care. Really like the food. Blueberry pancakes are awesome! The Mexican food is great. Love their taco soup. Very good! The only complaint I have (And why I'm giving 1 star with this review) is when the owner waited on us, she never came back to see how things were. She didn't offer to refill drinks. (No one did) We had to ask for our bill. Then I heard she complained we didn't tip. Well-- here's a thing about me. I tip. At least 20% -- almost all the time. As long as I see our server doing the best job possible, I'm going to give them a decent tip. Sometimes it's more than 20%. Even when they are having a bad day and the service might not be as good as I'd like, I will tip at least 20%. If the owner was busy in the back cooking or doing paperwork, etc and knew she couldn't get back to us, then she should have delegated another server to check on us. That's good business! We will be back because the other servers are great. If by chance we do come in and the owner is again the one waiting on us, we will request that someone else...
