Idly Express - Fremont — Restaurant in Fremont

We have been Fans of Mylapore express and Idli express for a couple of years now and never miss a chance on their amazing food. The experience is even more amazing with their wonderful staff who go beyond constantly to make the customer's experience a pleasant one. I am a regular at Fremont and often I am greeted by the warm smile of Raghu who serves as a shining example of amazing customer service. Recently I wanted to order the hot lunch for an auspicious event at home for 5-6 people including 3 elderly people. The timing was a little earlier than regular lunch and later than Breakfast (11 AM) on a Monday. Raghu made sure the lunch was available to us at that time. Even though he was not there physically when I picked up the lunch, he made sure to leave notes with my name so that the person attending knows what I need. Srini the person who was there at that time made sure I got the lunch hot, added some extra sambar and adjusted the order to get 2 extra vadas so that if there is one person extra for the event the food will not be less. This is going above and beyond any expectations. This kind of customer importance is extremely rare and I really commend the team for being this way. After all this, Raghu called me later that day to enquire if I got my order to satisfaction. That is perfection. There may be restaurants which boast Michelin stars in the bay area but I would not expect half of this service from anyone. Thank you for being this way. This is long over due review for consistently going above and beyond not just for the best tasting South Indian food in Bay Area but also for their efforts to keep their guests satisfied. There are two instances they went above and beyond to keep us happy with their service.

One was when veg pakora we ordered via Uber eats was out of stock. It was not really out of stock but final/last portion which they didn’t want to sell but still packed it to keep us happy and didn’t charge us for it. This truly demonstrated the quality standards they set for products they actually sell.

2nd instance was big one. I ordered food for 18-20 guests last minute(individual order not party order). There was a small delay but they made sure to make it up by packing it as it was for party order, loaded the food in my car, etc. they were generous with portion of food as well so we had no trouble serving 20 guests. All the guests were so impressed by the taste and was so appreciative. We are extremely happy with the care Resturant took to pack the food so it remains fresh as well. First thing that impressed all the guest was the authentic aroma from the food and then the taste.

Review for Idli Express, Fremont

We have been loyal customers of Idli Express for over a year and have always appreciated the taste and healthfulness of their food—especially their soft, porous idlis with sambar and chutney. However, I was extremely shocked by the quality of the Thattu Thali idlis I purchased three days ago.

The idlis were unusually hard, dense, and non-porous—very unlike the soft texture I remember from earlier visits. Within an hour of eating, we both experienced stomach upset ( a feeling of tightness in the stomach) that lasted for the next two days. This has never happened to me before with Idli Express, which is why I was so surprised and disappointed.

It almost felt as though something had changed in the batter preparation, and I sincerely request the owners to investigate the cause of these hard, non-porous idlis. For me, Idli Express has always been one of the few places I trusted for nutritious and relatively healthy food from a restaurant, and I would love to see it return to its original quality and standard.

I share this feedback not to criticize, but to bring it to the kind attention of the owners so that other customers can continue to enjoy the true Idli Express experience...
