Overall Experience This is a solid restaurant that stands out for its Indo-Chinese and snack offerings. Highly recommended dishes include their Indo-Chinese specialties, which are flavorful and well-prepared. I've tried the Triple Schezwan Chicken and Burnt Garlic Chicken Fried Rice, both of which were excellent.
Food Highlights The Vada Pav is a must-try, with a well-seasoned vada and flavorful chutney. While the pav itself is standard (as is often the case in the US), the overall dish is still satisfying. I might as well try Vada usal/misal next time. I did find the non-veg thalis a bit underwhelming, though. After enjoying some of their standout items from the Surmai, my expectations for the thalis were high, but they didn't quite measure up.
Room for Improvement There are a couple of minor issues worth noting. First, there were noticeable black stains on some of the utensils. The restaurant uses copper-coated spoons and forks, which, if not cleaned and dried properly, react with oxygen and leave stains. I'd suggest either switching to stainless steel utensils or adding extra attention to the cleaning process. Another small but noticeable detail is the music. They play a single song on loop, and once you notice it, it can become distracting, especially given the lack of soundproofing. A larger playlist of soft, melodic Marathi songs would enhance the ambiance significantly.
Overall Despite these minor issues, the food quality shines, and this is a restaurant I'd recommend for anyone craving delicious Indo-Chinese dishes and...
Read moreWe came here last night after the movie and it was packed. But a waiter at the door welcomed us graciously, escorted us to a small waiting area, and got us menus. The prices are higher than the other casual Indian places in the mall, but the warm welcome and decor, plus the crowds and kitchen aromas, convinced us to stay. Good decision!
Within 10 minutes we were seated, the waiter happily explaining some of the dishes we didn't know. The food came quickly and was delicious and plentiful (my husband and I shared a thali with an order of golden fluffy garlic Naan, and took food home). The special thali was a great choice with a variety of dishes like a rich, tender mutton curry, crunchy prawns, and spicy chicken soup. I would have loved to try some chutnies but didn't want to pay extra.
It's a bit of a hybrid setup - the decor looks like finer dining, but they put a stand with a number on your table like fast casual. Friendly waiters take your order, deliver takeaway boxes, and cash you out tableside, which makes for fast, efficient service, though we never felt rushed. The owner-manager checked on us a couple times and told us about their other restaurants in the Bay Area; clearly, he knows...
Read moreNew restaurant in town- the owner and rest of the staff are really nice to talk to, and everyone has done a terrific job with this place. It's located just behind the Cinélounge movie theater, so you can also plan to come here before or after you watch a sublime Indian movie.
It was my first time trying Konkani food and it was an AWESOME experience. I ordered the mutton masala and its portion size was enough for 2 orders of butter naan which go really well together. The mutton masala was nicely flavorful with a good level of spice (enough to make me sweat from start to end) but I enjoyed every bite because it tasted so GREAT and the spice contributed to the flavor so well. I also had the kokum sarbat, which is a refreshing and strongly sweet Konkani summer drink which was good to sip on in between bites of hot masala.
Atmosphere was great, make sure to admire the beautiful peacock artwork on the wall.
Next time I will try dishes from the Chinese fusion part of the menu which were highly recommended. Can't...
