Second time eating here, first time was earlier for breakfast, this time lunch. The menu is the same for both, which works for me, I love breakfast any time. I walked in at 1:15 PM, and it closes at 2 PM. I was trying to avoid the church crowd.
What’s good about it - The prices are very nice, chicken fried chicken, eggs, hash browns, toast, for 12.95, coffee for 2.95. A very hearty breakfast for less than 20.
The portions are very generous. My CFC covered half the plate. No skimping on gravy or hashbrowns. The CFC is butterflied, battered and a fried golden in-house. No Cisco crap served here.
Flavor is good on everything. Eggs cooked right.
So what’s wrong -
I came in at 1:15, got seated and ordered straight away. A 4 top came in after me about 5 minutes after I ordered. They were served, eaten and were paying up when I got mine. Clearly there is some miscommunication between the wait staff and the kitchen. I got my food about 1:50 PM.
The waiter told me they were out of cream gravy and asked if sausage gravy was okay? Of course it is, I like sausage gravy, but I’m pretty sure they weren’t out of cream gravy, just didn’t have any made and didn’t want to make a fresh batch before closing.
I ordered white toast and got wheat toast. No complaint, I like wheat toast also, but not what I ordered.
None of it is a deal breaker. This place is unique for Friendswood and it’s great that they’re here. I will be back to eat again. But if the service does not improve, it’s not going to help the business much. If the service drops from here, I will make other choices.
Update -
Okay so we’ve been back here several times now.
I really like the menu. The value is excellent. Chicken and waffles, eggs Benedict, Reuben and club sandwiches, all are great choices and generous portions.
The service improved dramatically. The waiter kinda gave me side-eye the next time I walked in after my original review, and I’m pretty sure they knew it was me who pointed out their issues, LOL. Still, the service was much better and I’m happy to improve my review from that time.
I really like ordering fresh fruit as the side. It’s generous and fresh, couple of watermelon wedges and blueberries and strawberries and pineapple.
I’m becoming fond of this place. The coffee is kind of bitter and that’s a brand issue, a nice breakfast blend would be great, but that’s my only complaint...
Read moreI was by myself and since there was a wait, but open spots at the counter, I decided to sit there. I know how to choose a seat at a counter, but the hostess decided that she would choose my seat for me. Ok. So, I was placed directly across from the pass through window of the kitchen, next to where people pick up their orders to go. At no time was I ever smiled at or greeted warmly. One younger lady got my drink, but she did not say that someone would be right back to take my order, or asked me if i was ready to order (which I was). Instead, she stood with her back to me, doing nothing else, but waiting on plates to come through the pass through window. She had plenty of time to acknowledge me or be considerate to me but she chose not to. After about 15 minutes of waiting, the older (my age) lady took my order, & delivered it to me later. Even when I was given my bill, the server didn't ask if I needed anything else or thank me for coming in. Those were the only interactions I had with any of the servers there. Apparently they didn't care that I was patronizing their business, & I was not valued as a customer. The food was average. The eggs were good but the portion was small. While I ate, the solo gentleman eating next to me was asked by servers three times if he was doing ok. Three times they checked in on him, & not once did they find me worthy to check in with me. Unbelievable. I don't understand why I was ignored & he was well taken care of. Additionally, the folks (all men) who picked up their To Go orders were treated properly by the younger server. She even wished each one a good day. But not once did she acknowledge, or make eye contact with me, even though I sat right between her interactions with multiple male customers. My experience here contained terrible customer service; which was extremely immature & unnecessary behavior. I will not be returning by myself or...
Read moreMy wife and I arrived around 9 a.m. midweek. The small restaurant was almost full but we were seated right away, close to the door. The noise wasn't loud and the conversations occurring at tables weren't intrusive to other tables. There were 2 servers working so ordering took a little longer than usual. There were were 2 cooks but it appeared as they were handling the volume of orders pretty well. Both servers were attending to our table and seemed to be struggling to handle the volume of costumers at each individual table and the line of customers that were waiting to be seated. Both of the servers were very nice to us, though. There were no issues with their hospitality and they both were obviously working quite hard. Once we received our orders, the food tasted great! The biscuits were grilled which made them crunchy on the inside but were soft on the outside, which we both really liked. Our eggs were prepared to order, the hashbrowns and the chicken-fried steak were cooked very well. It took some time for the bill to come to our table, though, even after i asked for it. Even though the restaurant seemed short-staffed, the servers were very nice and the food tasted great. We agreed that we...
