2025 update: I’ve frequented multiple times this year and the experience has been fantastic. The staff is just amazing. I love how spacious it’s and how fast I can get my food and enjoy in peace without people hovering around waiting for a table. — I was a bit hesitant to give them a try for being a fairly large chain but to my surprise it was good. 1.5lbs of meat and two sides were a good amount of food for 3 people quick lunch. The moist brisket, was tender, smoky and buttery. I didn’t need any sauce since it was well seasoned. The ribs were also tender and easily off the bones. The ribs were clearly cooked low and slow as the fatty parts acquired this unique aromatic flavor that is achieved when fat is cooked for a long time time such as in confit. The self-serve condiments bar was super refreshing. The onions, pickles, and pickled cherry peppers cut through the fatty meats very well. Lastly, glad to see that the meats are smoked or re-smoked on premise. When I walked in I saw they had the smokers going by the counter. I’ve visited other BBQ chains were they simply reheat bags of precooked meat in hot water.

Im giving it a three, with the caveat that it is a great place for teams to meet up after games. As far as the food though.... We showed up around 6:30 7 pm on a Saturday night post a volleyball tournament up the road. There was a lot of soccer going on as well. There was only a hand full of people in the place. That was a bit surprising. As my daughters team and a few other large groups rolled in that quickly changed. The lady behind the counter was very thorough and offered a sampler of their product as this was my first time. The turkey was a bit dry as was the brisket but good flavor. I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket, 1/2 a sausage link and about 3 pork ribs. The pork ribs were by far the worst. The were chewy and dried out. the sausage was ok but not juicy. and the brisket was ok, again dry but ok. I didnt finish the brisket. I didn’t get it but the loaded potato looked great. The banana pudding was good as was the potato salad as a side. The group had fun and had a lot of space, but the food is very sub par. for a dinner crowd i would think the que would not be dried out.

So I came in for my first time ever to Rudy’s for my father-in-laws birthday and the chicken tasted horrible. I even tried adding salt on it to make the taste better but still was still so nasty. The soda machine was drinks every single drink was out and needed to be replaced my girlfriend had to tell them to change it. But the thing is when I asked the manager if I can please change the chicken to something different he said it looked edible to him if I want something different I need to pay. It would be different if I ate a lot from it but I took two bites and his response was disrespectful. He and his employees proceeded to be disrespectful and I had walked out while my family finished there meals. The manager then came back and then apologized for his manners and refunded me my money. 10/10 do not recommend this place after my first time experience here. Food is not good enough for the mangers and employees to be bluntly disrespectful.

Update December 2021 - ended up here for breakfast for the first time in a long time and the tacos were solid. We all enjoyed it, so I’m cautiously optimistic things are trending back to the old days and bumping it up another star. Fingers crossed!

2021 : Because I hate to give up on a place thats close to home, I’ve been by Rudy’s two times for breakfast tacos and once for sandwiches with the family for lunch since the new year started. It’s been pretty consistently good and although the sandwiches were a little dry, overall I wanted to bump the place back up a star to 3. With local competition like Hutchins and Tenders just to name a few, they should definitely be worried and obsessive about quality control. Just one guys opinion of course, but unless I’m in a gambling mood I usually pay more elsewhere these days. When it’s good, it’s really good, is the takeaway here.

2/24/20 : I used to brag to to everyone that this place had the best breakfast tacos. Ive made two trips to Dallas over the last couple months and both times the tacos were pretty lousy. As in this time the whole family was with me and we just looked at each other. I threw half of my tacos away. One off day i could see but both my last two visits were so disappointing i doubt I'll ever return for breakfast. It was my favorite go to place. Not sure what happened guys but... sad.

2018: Used to love it, especially for breakfast - now I just "like" it. I used to think they were the best BBQ in town until I found Hutchins BBQ in McKinney (they also have a Frisco location I haven't been to). Hutchins crushes this place in every way, except that Rudy's is on my way home in the mornings and the tacos here are really good (most of the time.)

Updated 7/2/2017 : Our last tacos here were so devoid of flavor I took two bites out of each and just threw them away. That's not typical - but it can be really hit and miss on the brisket quality here I've noticed in the last few months. Most of the time it's above average. Other times you'll wonder why...

After eating at Hutchin’s BBQ, I think it’s hard for any other barbecue restaurant to measure up. We actually came here today because Hutchins was so full.

Pros: the restaurant was very clean, the food was hot and the meat was very moist and flavorful. The staff was also nice.

Cons: the barbecue sauce was just not good. There are two options, the original sauce and the sissy sauce. I understand why there is a sissy sauce, because the original sauce is very spicy, and I couldn’t eat it. The sissy sauce didn’t have any depth of flavor at all, though. It was tangy...and nothing else. Typically I look for a barbecue sauce to be tangy, smoky and a little bit sweet, and there were none of those other two elements in the Rudy’s sauce. The sauce also wasn’t served heated, but in individual prepackaged containers, much like how one would find a ketchup packet. I ended up eating the meat without any sauce.

My husband got the new potatoes as a side, but he said they were hard, and they tasted so bad he ended up getting potato chips instead. He and I agreed the barbecue flavor from the chips was sadly better than the flavor from the sauce. The beans I had were okay, but once again, kind of spicy. I only ended up eating half of it.

It was over $30 for my husband and I to eat there, and considering we weren’t that crazy about any of it, we were pretty disappointed. I don’t know if most people would feel this way if this were their first Texas barbecue experience though, because as stated, the meat itself is very good. For that reason I give it 3 stars. If they improved their sauce or side items I think it would be a much...

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you thought Rudy’s BBQ was just about the meat, let me drop a truth bomb: THE RICE KRISPY TREATS ARE THE REAL MVPs! Seriously, I walked in expecting delicious barbecue, but what I walked out with was a life-changing experience wrapped in marshmallow goodness!

These Rice Krispy treats are NOT your grandma's gooey masterpieces! No, my friends, they’re like crispy clouds of happiness that should come with a disclaimer: Caution: May cause spontaneous bliss and uncontrollable giggles. One bite and I was soaring through the flavor stratosphere—Elon Musk should take a lesson from these treats on how to reach new heights!

As I devoured the first piece, I felt as if I had discovered a hidden treasure! It was like eating your childhood dreams while riding a unicorn across a rainbow! Why bother with fancy desserts when you have these glorious squares of crispy delight? I could hear the angels cheering, and I swear a mariachi band kicked off a festive serenade just for me!

Picture this: I'm trying to savor just one more bite before diving into a second, and I end up with marshmallow fluff in my hair, crumbs on my shirt, and a grin so wide it could rival the Cheshire Cat. Forget about my dignity; I had to indulge in every heavenly morsel!

So, kudos to Rudy's BBQ for knocking it out of the park with these Rice Krispy treats. I’m putting them right up there with world peace and my new obsession with socks and sandals! If you haven’t tried them yet, your taste buds are missing out on the party of the century. Grab a plate of BBQ and stock up on these magical squares—it’s an edible celebration you don’t want...
