I always thought that Frisco Texas was one of those shiny new manufactured suburbs of the modern era, with no heart and soul, and only vast oceans of rooftops and strip malls. Silly me. Turns out I was wrong, because Frisco really does have a “downtown” district, if you will, albeit not very large. And, it doesn’t look like it was built in the last ten years.
It was in this laid-back center of an otherwise busy Dallas suburb that Oldest Daughter, Son-In-Law, and I found ourselves headed to Simply Thai Bistro a few days ago. It was probably one of the last days this summer season that would allow for outdoor dining without becoming as steaming hot as the food, so we ordered inside and grabbed a table on the quaint patio.
First on tap was a bowl of piping hot Edamame, which is a lot like theatre popcorn: You can’t stop eating them. It’s a basis appetizer, and Simply Thai did it up well.
This was quickly…and I mean quickly, much to our complete satisfaction…replaced with our entrees. Oldest Daughter went with Chicken Yellow Curry, while Son-In-Law ordered Thai Chicken Fried Rice. I ventured into slightly unfamiliar territory by ordering Pumpkin Tofu Red Curry, having never consumed pumpkin in this manner before. Spoiler: Do this! It was amazing! Daughter and I went with Spice Level 3 (out of 5), while S-I-L chose Level 2.
I found the serving size of mine to be just perfect, as did Oldest Daughter. But S-I-L, who by all rights has the biggest appetite of our trio, had to ask for a takeaway box, as they served him enough for two meals. No complaints here, mind you!
This was our first visit to Simply Thai (they have a second location not far away). Oldest Daughter and S-I-L have ordered from them before via DoorDash. We all concur that this could easily...
Read moreWhile taking a stroll down Main after dinner at another restaurant the previous week, we noticed Simply Thai across the street and made a mental note to check it out. We got the opportunity to visit recently and unfortunately it was a overall disappointment. Walking in, the small counter service restaurant had an off-putting smell which seemed to be related to plumbing issues. Given this isn't exactly a new part of town, we chalked it up to either being an old building or possibly a problem they were having that night. Either way we were not going to be able to eat with the sewer-like odor, so we opted for a table on the patio despite it being close to 100 degrees outside. Said patio presented some seating challenges in and of itself with random mismatched tables and chairs and half of it being on a sloped, broken up sidewalk. We did find a clean 2 top right against the building on the only level part of the outdoor seating area. Once the food arrived, after waiting quite some time, it was not seasoned very well. I could definitely taste the heat but there was not much underlying flavor. To top it all off, the prices were pretty high given the taste of the food and all the above mentioned issues with the building itself. To be clear, it didn't taste bad, just not anything we would come back for to try other dishes. The staff was very friendly which makes me feel a bit bad for having to give such a low review, but I have to be honest about our experience in the hopes that this will be helpful feedback. We really wanted to like this place but with everything that didn't turn out well, it's unlikely we'd give it...
Read moreWe have been eating here about 5 years now, and it’s about time I did a review. The staff inside are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. If you are eating in the restaurant, you’ll have to order at the window and they will deliver your food to your table when it is ready. As a designer, I’m not a huge fan of the décor in the restaurant, I feel it could really use a makeover. However, the restaurant is in a great location and has a nice patio that overlooks Main Street.
The food here is absolutely wonderful. It’s always cooked to perfection and we always receive piping hot food. Our favorites are the curry dishes. My favorite is the Green Curry with veggies, my daughter loves the Yellow curry with chicken, and my spouse loves the Massamun curry with tofu. My daughter has also had the Beef with broccoli here in the past, it looked and smelled great. Other than that, we’ve really never tried any other dishes here because we always crave the curries. One day we will explore some of their other menu options.
We almost always order carryout and call in our order in advance of pick up. They do get pretty busy on the weekends, so just make sure you call in early to reduce your wait time. They are almost always pretty accurate on the time they tell you your food will be ready to pick up. The curries always come in plastic containers and the rice comes in a Styrofoam box.
If you crave something delicious with spice and flair, I highly recommend you try Simply Thai Bistro. It truly is tasty satisfying food, at a...
